About The Job
Sandy Spring Bank is currently recruiting an Underwriter I in the Mortgage Department.* If you are the chosen candidate, you will be responsible for underwriting and evaluating residential mortgage applications originated by the Bank that are sold to investors through the secondary market. The position requires an in-depth and thorough knowledge of conventional mortgage processing, underwriting, and settlement functions.
*This position could be located in any of the Mortgage Division work sites (Olney-ATC Building, Reston or Rockville Center)

Required Skills:
- Possess a broad level of professional experience in mortgage banking to include thorough knowledge of mortgage underwriting guidelines and related regulations.

Minimum of one year of mortgage underwriting and 3 - 5 years of senior level processing experience. College degree in business or related field is preferred

Possess advanced problems-solving skills to find solutions to problems that are technically complex and require the collection, interpretation and analysis of data from diverse sources.

Analytical ability to research problems and providing possible solutions. Ability to evaluate alternative courses of action and their consequences on the organization

Appropriate interpersonal skills to maintain a positive rapport with customers and colleagues

Ability to work under minimal supervision requiring independent judgment and assessment of risk.

Knowledge of standard computer and phone systems
