Position Summary: The Patient Care Tech assists the licensed staff with basic patient care functions, which includes but is not limited to bathing, ambulating, toileting and feeding patients. In addition, picking up meal trays, taking vital signs and measuring and recording intake and output are functions of the Patient Care Tech. The patient care techs assist with nursing staff by performing bedside glucose checks, foley catheter care including discontinuation of foley, urine collection, tracheostomy care and simple dressing care. The PCT may also be responsible for performing the clerical tasks as assigned by the department manager or charge nurse. These tasks may include: functions as a receptionist for the unit and answers all phone calls and patient intercom calls. Responsibility for transcribing physician orders, assembling/maintaining charts for admitted patients, preparing charts for HIM department for discharged patients, and entering orders into the Meditech system. Basic organization and cleanliness of the unit.

QUALIFICATIONS

* BLS, issued by the American Heart Association certification required

* C.N.A. preferred

* Completion of medical terminology course preferred

* Previous experience preferred
