Job Description:

Harrington Cancer Center is dedicated to providing the most advanced cancer care and treatment in the Texas Panhandle region. We provide a unique, team approach to provide consultation, evaluation, diagnosis, and comprehensive treatment.

Job Summary:

The clinical infusion nurse is responsible for administering nursing care to patients in a safe, efficient, compassionate, and courteous manner using proper nursing procedures. The infusion nurse will be responsible for keeping certifications and a strong knowledge base in regards to chemotherapy administration. The nurse will manage and take care of patients in the infusion suite. They will access their ports and/or PICC lines and administer chemotherapy with approved ONS standards and QOPI safety measures. The infusion nurse will utilize principles of continuous quality improvement and work in collaboration with the healthcare team.

Education/Licenses/Certifications:

* An RN currently licensed by the State of Texas with at least one-year Oncology experience

* Chemotherapy and Biotherapy certification required

* OCN certification preferred

Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

* Must have ONS chemotherapy certification for drug administration

* Must have pharmacology of antineoplastic agents

* Safe handling, preparation, and disposal of chemotherapy drugs

* Chemotherapy-related intravenous therapy skills

* Provide education on medications and disease process of cancer and chemotherapy

* Have knowledge base of current EMR systems and document in a timely and safe manner

* Advanced assessment skills to be able to recognize life-threatening drug reactions

* Must have experience in aseptically accessing sterile ports and PICC lines

* Be able to perform phlebotomies on patients as ordered

* Adhere to standards of safety and infection control in the delivery of care as outlined by ONS and QOPI guidelines

* Assure that all consents for treatment are accurate and signed prior to chemotherapy treatment

* Be able to calculate medication doses using Calvert method

* Be able to calculate the BMI, BSA, and Creatinine Clearance

* Must have current knowledge of NCCN guidelines and apply knowledge to patient treatment

* Use of QOPI Standards of Care

* CPR required, ALCS preferred
