Idaho National Laboratory s (INL) Fire Systems group is hiring a Fitter 1st Class (Journeyman) to join their team based out of our Central Facilities Area (CFA) located approximately one hour from Idaho Falls. This position will work site-wide and is considered an essential role, so will not be able to telework due to COVID-19 precautions.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

The responsibilities of this classification include performing journeyman maintenance/installation of piping, plumbing and tubing systems, and components. All tasks that may be performed by this classification are not contained in this standard.

* Preventive and corrective testing and maintenance on fire protection systems and equipment throughout INL where USW-Main has jurisdiction.

* Troubleshoot piping and tubing systems and components

* Repair/maintain piping and tubing systems and components

* Install piping and tubing systems and components

* Perform preventative/predictive maintenance on piping and tubing systems and components.

* Troubleshoot/repair/maintain fire systems flapper, hydrants, fire protection fluid systems, risers, valves, air dryers and heat exchangers. Connect and disconnect pumps. Clean strainers and heat exchangers.

* Perform piping and piping component installation, forming, connection, support, and modification activities on various materials. Install gauges, valves, and instrumentation. Troubleshoot/repair leaks and hydro test piping. Replace rupture discs. Layout various joints and connections for welding. Conduct plastic welding. Clean/replace sight glasses.

* Repair/replace hazardous chemical/substance lines.

* Fabricate gaskets. Sterilize piping.

* High School Graduate/GED plus 5 years applicable experience, or recognized trade apprenticeship plus 2 years applicable experience, or 2 years Vocational Training plus 3 years applicable experience.

* Fire Systems or "red pipe" experience strongly preferred.

* Journeyman preferred.

* Must be able to obtain and maintain DOE security clearance.
