Job Description:


The Department of Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh is seeking two individuals with an education and training in clinical health psychology or related field (e.g., social work, counseling, and psychiatric nursing). The candidate may hold a Master's degree or Ph.D. and experience working on a clinical research protocols is preferred. The position will include both clinical and research opportunities in multidisciplinary setting. The primary responsibilities will include providing evaluation and treatment to patients in an ongoing NIH-funded randomized controlled trial testing a collaborative care intervention.

The candidate will also have the opportunity to assist with ongoing manuscript preparation and grants. The candidate must be willing to travel to other sites within 30-45 minutes of the main campus 1-2 days per week. Responsibilities will the evaluation and treatment of patients using cognitive behavioral therapy. Additional responsibilities include the management of intakes and progress notes, and communication with health care team. The patient care will include evaluating and treatment patients face to face in outpatient and inpatient settings as well as by phone. The position will also include working with data including recoding data. As part of the research responsibilities, s/he will also be involved in literature reviews, writing, and editing. The therapist could also assist with research related activities (e.g., delivering samples, taking patient to lab). The organizational impact of the position will be significant with regard to research and the operation of the work group as well as patient care.

The Therapist's position consists of broad responsibilities requiring application of policies to dynamic and complex conditions including the comorbid factors including a diagnosis of cancer, treatment side effects, and psychiatric symptoms. Some problems may require significant analysis and judgement and solutions may include adapting existing practice to new systems. The Therapist will also assist in interviewing and employee selection. The Therapist will interact with staff inside and outside the University and may include interpreting, explaining, issues and assistance with problems solving. The Therapist will not likely work with any financial aspects of the project. Note: The department will be recruiting for two Therapist vacancies from this posting.
