This position is based at the Sioux Falls, SD 1st Financial Bank USA Credit Card Center.

Title:  Cloud Systems Engineer

Job Overview: 

As a key member of the Bank’s cloud and operations team, you will be an active participant in the solution engineering and operational support of cloud infrastructure solutions and applications aligned with the Bank’s cloud initiatives. You will work to automate the deployment of features, software, and services and provide day-to-day operational support in an agile manner. You will embed yourself within agile teams to assist and advise team members on technical issues and lead efforts to migrate solutions from legacy infrastructure to our next-gen hybrid cloud environment. Your passion for Infrastructure as Code, DevOps, and orchestration/configuration management technologies will serve you well as you work with architects, developers, and engineers to design, build, and support our core computing platform.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities


  • Research, analyze, recommend, and implement technical infrastructure solutions via Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automation.

  • Use and model Agile/DevOps principles in an IT Operations environment.

  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in orchestration and configuration management technologies such as Terraform, Azure Resource Manager (ARM) and Ansible.

  • Responsible for installing/configuring/maintaining systems, servers, client-based solutions, storage, and applications within the following technologies:, Azure, VMWare, and other virtualization and cloud technologies.

  • Remediate vulnerabilities on all infrastructure components and disaster recovery planning/participation.

  • Participate in on-call rotation after hours and weekends to respond to emergency outages.

  • May be asked to coach, mentor, or train others and teach coursework as subject matter expert.

  • Ensure optimal technical operation, maintenance and support of the Bank’s on premise enterprise environment for robust and reliable performance.

  • Support daily operations to server infrastructure such as capacity management, performance monitoring, provisioning, and network systems connectivity.

  • Create and manage virtual infrastructure using VMware and Oracle VM.

  • Integrate systems to enterprise storage solutions using multiple connectivity methods.

  • Must have desire to learn new skills and work with new technologies.

  • Complete and maintain all necessary documentation pertaining to the Windows environment, policies and procedures, and other projects as assigned.

  • Involved in all aspects of the design, implementation, recommendation, monitoring and documentation of enterprise systems.

  • Possesses the ability to be productive in a team environment as well as work independently.

  • Recommend technical changes to all areas of the business in an effort to provide more efficient practices.

  • Assist other IT teams with resource support as project demands adjust.  This can be working with any team:  cybersecurity, infrastructure, network, service desk, etc…

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities


  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent, and previous experience as a Systems Engineer.

  • 3+ years’ experience in cloud migration and operations support.

  • Proven experience with incorporating agile principles and a DevOps mindset in an enterprise IT organization.

  • Strong in-depth, hands-on knowledge of and experience with several core technologies with hardware/software or operating system deployment, Windows operating systems, RedHat Linux operating system, Active Directory, clustering, load balancing, and VDI.

  • Proven experience with troubleshooting principles, methodologies, and issue resolution techniques.

  • Experience with scripting and automation technologies such as PowerShell, Python, and YAML-based templates.

  • Experience with orchestration and configuration management tools such as Terraform, Azure Resource Manager (ARM), Ansible, or similar.

  • Excellent verbal and written communications.

  • Knowledge of trends in technology in multiple areas.

  • Positive attitude.

  • Ability to absorb new ideas and concepts quickly.

  • Good analytical and problem-solving abilities.

  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.

  • Very strong customer service orientation.

  • Work involves sitting, occasional walking, and lifting up to 50 pounds.

  • The position requires sharing rotation of on-call duties after hours, weekends and holidays to respond to emergency outages.

Professional Certification

Certified in at least one Microsoft Azure Cloud, Microsoft MCSE, Linux RHSE or cybersecurity related certification is preferred.    Any other certifications provide value for the organization.
