The Associate Benefits Consultant will support and grow a book of business with emphasis in the Public Sector, Multiemployer and Corporate Markets. This person will have expertise related to employer-based health benefits including experience managing medical, pharmacy, dental, vision and other lines of ancillary health benefits. The person will utilize this experience to help clients effectively manage their health benefit offerings while also supporting the client from a strategic consultative perspective.

The Opportunity: The individual will step into a multi-faceted role that offers the opportunity to work directly with clients and support client service teams.


The Role: The role of an Associate Benefits Consultant includes partnering with experienced Benefits Consultants on client management, project management, and new business development. The Associate Consultant has the secondary relationship accountability for assigned or procured clients, overall service responsibility, and client satisfaction. In addition to maintaining positive relationships, the Associate Consultant will collaborate with others across Segal to achieve technical knowledge of our service offerings and provide clients with a full array of our consulting services.

On a day-to-day basis, this person typically works with key human resources professionals to provide consultation regarding the strategy, management and administration of the employee health benefit plan offerings. This person will help the client develop short and long term benefit strategies, assist in the management of the plan offerings acting as a liaison with the health plan carriers, e.g., medical, Rx, dental, vision, etc., and help ensure that the administration of the benefits is being operated efficiently and effectively. Key accountabilities include:

• Understanding client issues, anticipating client needs (e.g., staying ‘ahead of the game’), and navigating the various potential solutions;

• Establishing rapport and building effective working relationships within client organizations as well with Segal colleagues;

• Learning about creative, innovative and strategic opportunities to ultimately help guide clients and colleagues around the issues and emerging developments in the employee health benefits and retirement benefits industries;

   - Assisting and later being responsible for developing communications to clients;

   - Assisting with reviewing and providing input in the completion of new business RFPs;

   - Assisting with Open Enrollment and the annual renewal process;

   - Assisting with reviewing, providing input and presenting client presentations and finalist meetings;

   - Tracking and documenting open items and reviewing them with clients.

 

 


Key Requirements: The qualified candidate must have:

• Minimum of an undergraduate degree and several years in health benefits consulting or employee benefits;

• Effective interpersonal and communication (verbal/written) skills;

• Ability to step immediately into a direct client contact role;

• Strong project management skills (and experience) as well as excellent business acumen;

• Demonstrated success as a relationship builder and collaborator;

• Ability to analyze and identify issues to develop solutions;

• Proven learning agility and flexibility;

• Demonstrated experience and success in managing client relationships;

• Ability to properly prioritize and act upon urgent items with little to no guidance;

• Takes initiative;

• Skill in delivering/presenting complex information into actionable terms that clients will grasp and be able to act upon;

• Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse audience of colleagues and clients; and

• Ability and interest to travel as needed to meet with clients and prospects.
