The Department of Animal Science has active extension programs for young producers of dairy, beef, sheep, goats, swine, poultry, horses, dogs, cats, and rabbits. In addition, Science and Technology Programming includes both in-school and after school activities such as lessons found in the New York State 4-H Science Technology Engineering and Math Toolkit and national 4-H Veterinary Science curriculum.

The Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) 4-H mission in New York State is to connect youth to hands-on learning opportunities that help them grow into competent, caring, contributing members of society. In the Animal Science program, rural, suburban and urban young people enjoy animal-related projects that enhance knowledge and skills in biology and production systems and encourage personal development.

What You Will Do

We are seeking a talented individual who will be responsible for coordinating the New York State 4-H youth horse extension programming. You will collaborate with multiple stakeholders to develop program content for the statewide 4-H equine program. As part of the team, you will seek to promote diversity and inclusiveness within the New York State 4-H equine program and activities. Specific duties include:

Supervising staff and state-level volunteers to implement state, regional, and national level 4-H programs and events
-
Participating in planning committees of national and regional equine events
-
Overseeing website content and collaborate effectively with department, college and university communications teams
-
Developing and managing budgets to meet the needs of youth interest across the state
-
Preparing grants to support the New York State 4-H equine program

What We Need

We are looking for an individual that excels at building relationships with multiple stakeholders to develop extension programs. We need someone who has an appreciation for 4-H. We need someone that has strong customer service skills with a focus on excellence.Additionally, we need someone who has:
-
Bachelor's Degree in Animal Science or Equine Science with 2+ years of experience working in equine youth programs, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
-
Proficient in using computer programs such as Microsoft Office Suite and remote technologies (e.g., Zoom) and social media.
-
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
-
Strong presentation skills.
-
Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
-
Strong commitment to quality service, collaborative decision making, and teamwork.
-
Ability to deliver creative solutions.
-
Ability to work well with a diverse group in a professional and respectful work environment.
-
Demonstrated skills in problem solving and critical thinking.
-
Ability to set priorities and anticipate potential issues.

Excellent organization skills with the ability to prioritize multiple projects.

Must be able to meet the travel requirements of the position, and have reliable transportation as well as have and maintain a valid and unrestricted New York State driver's license.

Must exercise sound and ethical judgment when acting on behalf of the University.

Advanced degree (e.g., Master's level degree) preferred.

Experience in the equine industry.

Experience with 4-H or other youth educational programming.

This position is part-time (20 hours/week) and will be based in Ithaca, New York. This is a one-year appointment with possible extension depending on funding and performance.
