WestEd is a nonpartisan, nonprofit agency that conducts and applies research, develops evidence-based solutions, and provides services and resources in the realms of education, human development, and related fields, with the end goal of improving outcomes and ensuring equity for individuals from infancy through adulthood. WestEd has more than a dozen offices nationwide, from Massachusetts, Georgia, and Washington, DC, to Arizona and California, with headquarters in San Francisco.

Position Responsibilities:

This position will help develop 12th grade 'Reading Readiness' online course based on the Reading Apprenticeship framework, scaffolding the practice of Reading Apprenticeship routines in a course designed to prepare students for college reading. Responsibilities include collaborating with WestEd team on content development (lesson design, text selection, activities and translation to online modality), review, and revision, and serving as 'Master Teacher' to lead and guide the implementation of the course.

Master Teacher will:

- Participate in meetings with Reading Apprenticeship College Coordinator weekly throughout the online course to design curriculum modules, assignments, assessments

- Assist with design and delivery of professional learning to participating high school teachers

- Facilitate ongoing workshops and meetings with teachers to support their implementation of the Reading Readiness curriculum throughout spring 2021.

SPECIAL NOTICE REGARDING THE WORK LOCATION OF THIS POSITION - Currently, all staff at WestEd are working from home until further notice. Once we return to offices, this position will be based in one of WestEd's offices. Candidates can submit a request to work from home.

Qualifications:

- Master's degree and completion of the Leadership Community of Practice in Reading Apprenticeship.

- Experience utilizing the Reading Apprenticeship framework while engaged as a college instructor.

- Ability to provide relationship- and strength-based consultation using inquiry and reflective practices.

- Knowledge of best practices in online teaching.

- Knowledge of the Canvas Learning Management System.

- Knowledge of Zoom video conferencing technology

- Knowledge of WestEd's suite of Reading Apprenticeship professional development resources and publications.
