Job Description:

The Vascular Access Specialist is a Registered Nurse who is responsible for assessing patients for the need of a mid to long term vascular access device (VAD). The Vascular Access Specialist will Assess patients by admission printout, pharmacy printout for mid to long term vascular access device (VAD's) candidates (mornings daily), round on units to find patients via clinical staff who may need a mid to long term VAD's, assist and work closely with Case Management and physicians, place and assist in maintaining the appropriate VAD or refer placement to a the radiology or operating room, provide resource education to staff on VAD's patients to alternate sites, complete administrative duties to include monitoring device outcomes along with quarterly and yearly performances.

Education/Licensures/Certifications:
Current Texas RN license
CPR certified
ACLS certified

Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Minimum 2 years recent RN experience in acute care, procedural, ED or Critical Care setting
Prior Vascular Access experience preferred
Must exhibit desire to exemplify the BSA culture, including the BSA Mission, Vision and the BSA Way
Good interpersonal and customer service skills
Good organizational and follow-through skills
Ability to multi-task constantly and tolerate interruptions
Must be able to work in high stress area
Must display good communication, organization and follow-through skills
High level skills in critical thinking and assessment
Ability to work independently
Willingness to learn new techniques
Excellent communication and teaching skills including high level clinical communication skills with physicians, and other clinical staff
Willingness to maintain and improve knowledge level related to vascular access with seminars, magazines, books, and professional organizations.
Willingness to remain current with nationwide practice of vascular access therapy
