Schedule:
This is a full-time (40 hr/wk) day shift position with hours Monday-Friday 8:00-4:30pm (but could be flexible). Reliable and dependable attendance is an essential function of the position. Adherence to attendance-related policies and expectations is critical to this position.

What can you expect?
You will be using microtomes, processors, an embedding center, an automatic slide stainer, coverslipper, and special stains to process tissue samples for pathologists. It is expected you will follow SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) and maintain a safe working environment. You can expect to specialize in the following areas:
- Grossing, embedding, microtomy, staining and special staining techniques
- Accurate and timely delivery of casework (and collateral materials) to on-site and off-site pathologists
- Performing case approvals and billing of cases
- Maintaining and troubleshooting histology instruments and systems
- Performing variety of customer service activities for internal and external customers, providing information, resolving issues and ensuring customer satisfaction

What do you need to succeed?
EDUCATION:
- 4-year degree in Science-related field preferred.
- Completion of a Histology degree and/or certificate program preferred.
- Certification as a Histotechnician (HT) (ASCP) or as a Histotechnologist (HTL) (ASCP). Will accept candidate who is eligible to sit for certification within one year.

EXPERIENCE:
- 2-5 years' experience

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Laboratory skills, with experience in a histology lab
- General science background, including histology experience helpful
- Attention to detail
- Organized with ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Communication skills, both verbal and written
- Positive, can-do attitude.
- Ability to follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as appropriate

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Extensive sitting, phone and computer use
- Capable of standing continuously for up to 2 hours
- Extend and reach with hands and arms and use hands and fingers
- Occasionally required to climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel or crouch
- May be required to lift, move and carry up to 50 pounds
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
- Sufficient hearing acuity to effectively communicate with customers and employees via telephone and in person
- Ability to communicate verbally on phone and in person
- Fluency in the English language
- Extended hours may be required

- Laboratory environment with potential biohazards present
- Potential for exposure to agents known to cause zoonotic disease in humans and use of potentially hazardous chemicals as defined by the National Hazard Communication Standards. A complete list of such chemicals is available from department supervision.
