Our Manager of Microbiology and Systems Biology will lead a team of world-class Scientists devoted to the advancement of microbiology and systems biology research related to wine production.  This is a unique opportunity to guide fermentation research in yeast and bacteria, including the application of genetics, biochemistry and molecular biology.
What You Will Do


  • Develop research strategies and projects required to support key scientific and business initiatives. 

  • Identify opportunities for process and product improvement, including optimization of our fermentation practices.  

  • Identify opportunities and lead collaborative projects with external partners.  

What You Need


  • PhD in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, Biotechnology or Food Science, plus 5 years of fermentation research experience.

  • Candidates for this position must have a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record. Required to obtain a California driver’s license or appropriate state driver’s license within 30 days of hire.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include color vision (Judging Wine Color).

What Will Set You Apart


  • PhD in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, Biotechnology or Food Science plus 8 years of yeast fermentation research experience including supervisory or managerial experience.

  • Experience in microbiology and molecular biology with demonstrated expertise in the genomics, molecular biology, systems biology, physiology and high-throughput phenotyping of the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae.

  • Working knowledge of fermented beverage production practices with emphasis on primary and secondary fermentation methodologies and technologies.

  • Experience in the use of MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint & Outlook at an intermediate level.
