Position Function


  • This position leads and directs the Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) programs for the Southeat region and will be based in our Pensacola, FL plant.    

  • The EHS manager is responsible for the design, implementation, and management of all EHS policies, procedures, and activities in accordance with all local, state, federal (EPA, OSHA, etc.), and OHD requirements to ensure regulatory compliance.

  • Additionally, the position monitors and measures compliance to standards and results of EHS programs / activities implemented.

Reporting Relationship:

This role will report to the HR Director at the facility with dotted line reporting into the Corporate Director of Environmental Health and Safety.

Position Location:

This individual contributor role will be based in our manufacturing facility located in Pensacolla, FL and the person will need to live within a 45 minute drive.  Will be required to also support other sales and service/install locations in the the Southeast region of the US.

 

Role and Responsibilities:


  • Proactively develops and administers health and safety procedures and programs and monitors compliance to reduce risks.

  • Reviews all safety programs and documents and identify and assist in correcting any gaps found to bring programs into compliance. 

  • Serves as the primary EHS technical, regulatory, and management resource.  Work with the Leadership team to ensure compliance with regulatory and company EHS requirements by providing support for agency interactions (when on site and for follow-up), enforcement actions, permitting applications, reports, issues and negotiations.

  • Support facility by helping develop, implement and sustaining EHS programs and procedures by helping them identify resources, tools and knowledge that is available to control EHS issues.

  • Prepare environmental regulatory reports for facility review and submittal (utilizing data supplied by each facility). Includes but is not limited to tier 2, form R and quarterly reports.

  • Help with verification for Self-audit’s in conjunction with HR of facility.

  • Assist with monthly safety training by coaching Safety Coordinators and Supervisors in executing required subjects in an effective and timely manner.

  • With facility personnel, conduct audits and inspections to identify EHS issues and assist them in developing solutions or process alternatives.  

  • Support facility in effectively managing incidents and follow-up responses. Ensure incidents and any compliance deviations are assessed to ensure corrective and preventive measures are implemented. 

  • Provide support to facility safety and environmental representatives to help them build and maintain awareness of developing EHS issues and adoption of best practices through benchmarking internally and externally.

  • Represent the Organization’s interests when meeting with representatives of OSHA during formal inspections of facilities and assist in implementing corrective action and follow up with OSHA or other such agencies.

  • Oversee and direct the maintenance of the Emergency Action Plan, and other operating plant contingency plans including fire prevention and procedures for controlling hazardous spills, in accordance with government regulation and insurance company requirements.

  • Oversees maintenance of a complete and accurate MSDS file for ready access.

  • Coordinates and directs the first responder team providing First Aid training as needed.

  • Provides first aid and injury triage to injured employees.

  • Ensure maintenance of environmental records of hazardous waste, air emission permitting, and water pollution discharge, as well as industrial health monitoring and records of employee hazard exposure according to OSHA regulations.

  • Oversee and direct the safety committee and ensure minutes of meetings are maintained and disseminated to appropriate parties, and that needed corrective/preventative action is implemented.

  • Identifies and manages personal protective equipment needs for the site, as well as evaluates the effectiveness and functionality of required PPE.

  • Serves as the plant liaison to the corporate EHS office for all environmental, health and safety issues.

  • Performs safety validations of all new and/or modified equipment and/or processes.

  • Evaluates and identifies areas of improvement from a safety and health perspective to ensure associate safety.

Qualifications:


  • 5 to 7 years safety and health experience in a manufacturing environment.

  • This is a key position on our leadership team and a proven record of leadership abilities is strongly desired.

  • Ability to provide first aid/triage, administer drug tests and train first responders.

  • Experience in conducting thorough root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions.

  • Excellent communication, presentation and facilitation skills.

  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Excel, HRIS and third party systems.

  • Ability to maintain good working relationships with employees and management.

  • A thorough understanding of federal and state regulations including OSHA, EPA and state and local regulatory requirements.

  • Demonstrated experience investigating and managing injuries, claims and procedure.

  • Paramedic or nursing experience a plus.

Education:


  • BS in Health and Safety, Environmental, Engineering, or related field is required.

Travel:


  • Up to 20% travel may be required.
