This position will provide comprehensive engineering support to the Mechanical Engineering Manager and other site leadership team members. You will be responsible for providing a full range of engineering solutions to client groups at the site and be in an environment where you can have a greater impact.
Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities
Design, package, & release electro-mechanical and related components for Proterra’s transit bus
Create electro-mechanical sub-system specifications and interface with key suppliers and manufacturing in support of vehicle level requirements
Lead and implement industry best practices for electrical routings and securements
Works with CAE resources to ensure high performance and efficiency of design
Ensure the electro-mechanical sub-systems are properly integrated with all other vehicle systems
Release design math and various other support drawings and works closely with mechanical design group to ensure 3D data integrity and drawing accuracy
Develop robust vehicle development and validation plans and work with product validation group to ensure product meets customer requirements
Author statement of requirements as part of strategic sourcing initiatives
Support test and field incident resolution
Maintain State-of-the-Art knowledge of electro-mechanical related topics
Implement new technology and the development of future products and scaling of vehicle manufacturing
Design engineering solutions for mechanical and electrical vehicle systems based on customer requirements, established engineering & quality principles and in accordance with developmental technology practices and guidelines.
Assists manufacturing and quality in root cause analysis & issue resolution
Create and release ECO’s according to established project milestones and targets
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Designing moderate-complexity mechanical and electrical parts and systems and associated production tooling, manufacturing and quality processes
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to effectively communicate product architectures, design proposals and negotiate options at management levels
Using 3D CAD software as an engineering design tool.
Familiar with GD&T principles
Works on problems of moderate scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of a variety of factors. Exercises judgement within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action. Builds productive internal/external working relationships.
Receives moderate instruction on day-to-day work, general instructions on new assignments.
Knowledge of design, development, test, manufacturing and assembly operations (DFM)
Self-starter with the ability to balance and prioritize

Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
5+ years minimum of progressive engineering experience
Experience related to electro-mechanical components, commercial transportation, and/or automotive industry is preferred
Experience with electrical or pneumatic routings and routing securements is a plus
Proficient in 3D CAD design of mechanical components: CATIA preferred
