Job summary
The Senior Director of Medical Affairs is responsible for the strategic development and execution of scientific and medical information for healthcare providers and administrators, private and public sector payors, government public health and policy entities and other high priority external stakeholders and influencers, for INOVIO's COVID-19 vaccine in the US and abroad. In a proactive and timely fashion, the Senior Director of Medical Affairs is expected to develop and maintain credible relationships with key stakeholder decision makers and influencers. This position works closely with the clinical and commercial teams to source and provide strategic input into core brand strategies, support medical/marketing activities, and market access. The Senior Director of Medical Affairs also works to proactively position Inovio as a trusted healthcare partner and its products as addressing important unmet medical needs. This position works closely with functional leadership company-wide in a high-profile role that is both strategic and executional in nature. It is also the responsibility of the Senior Director of Medical Affairs to assure that the Medical Affairs infrastructure is prepared and equipped to support future requirements of the COVID-19 Vaccine program. This person will have a direct line of reporting within the Clinical department.
Essential job functions and duties
- Develops and executes the Medical Affairs strategy for INOVIO's COVID-19 Vaccine, INNOVATE.
- Develops and cultivates long term relationships with key scientific and medical thought leaders, societies and private and public entity medical and pharmacy directors.
- Represents INOVIO within medical/scientific trade associations and coalitions.
- Assesses medical/scientific educational needs to develop strategy and execution for internal and external training and engagement.
- Provides accurate, balanced and timely medical and scientific information proactively and in response to request from health care professional.
- Develops and ensures accuracy of medical/scientific content used in external company materials. Provides medical review and approval of all promotional materials in compliance with US regulations.
- Contributes to effective publication planning to ensure consistent and meaningful scientific communication.
- Leads activities for US advisory boards and medical meetings ensuring compliance and adherence to company policy.
- Manages the Medical Affairs budget and is responsible for optimal resource allocation.
- Communicates regularly with the different internal Inovio stakeholders to ensure critical information is utilized.
- 25% to 50% travel (post pandemic); US and ex-US
Minimum requirements
- PharmD, PhD or MD
- Minimum 12 years of relevant experience, with 9 years of management in Pharmaceutical or Biotech vaccine Medical Affairs experience ; ex-US experience is desired but not required.
- Proven experience in building strategies for how to work with key opinion leaders.
- Must have experience working with vaccines and Infectious Disease experience.
- Successful record with product launches and supporting a commercial organization
- Established network and relationships with vaccine thought leaders and influencers
- Strong leadership skills with proven ability to manage/ influence internal and external stakeholders
