Job Description:

Responsibilities

As our Research Associate, you will provide technical support and manage thernlaboratory which focuses on investigating blood and plasma biomarkers inrnpediatric acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). Under the generalrnsupervision of the laboratory Principal Investigator, your major functionsrnwill be to maintain laboratory function and equipment, perform technical dutiesrnsuch as DNA and RNA extraction from human blood and/or plasma, managernbiological specimens for various assays, and learn new methods as necessary forrnresearch advancement.

You will be encouraged to think and work creatively with minimal supervision. Results ofrnexperiments will be reviewed and discussed on a daily to weekly basis. Additionally,rndepending on the need for lab work vs clinical study coordination, you willrnalso provide support to the research group in general including but not limitedrnto helping with our ongoing local and multicentre studies as needed includingrnscreening, consenting, sample and data collection. Requisite training will bernprovided for all clinical coordination tasks. This is a limited term position for 18 months.

Required:

* Demonstrated skill with extraction techniques of DNA from whole blood samples

* Experience with genotyping and ELISA for biomarker assays.

* Knowledge of laboratory safety procedures associated with the handling andrndisposal of chemicals and chemical waste, and biohazards and biohazardousrnwaste.

* Strong organization skills to maintain detailedrnlaboratory protocols, ordering information, and inventories of reagents.

* Advanced molecularrnbiology techniques. Skills in PCR, DNA and RNA isolation.

* Strong skills in computing cell concentrations, solution preparation, and otherrnneeded mathematical calculations.

* Organizational skills with strong attention to detail and flexibility to managernmultiple tasks with competing deadlines.

* Maintain a flexible schedule to accommodate non-customary timing constraints ofrnexperiments.

* B.S. degree in Biological Sciences strongly preferred
