Position Overview

The Accounting Specialist will perform day to day accounting and control functions.  The position also includes periodic and ad hoc reporting, fulfilling requests from other areas of the business, process enhancements, and possible personnel management.  The position has room to grow within the organization.

Responsibilities Include:


  • General Ledger account reconciliations

  • Calculation and tracking of vendor and customer rebates.

  • Maintenance and tracking of corporate insurance

  • Expense tracking and reconciliations

  • Fixed asset maintenance

  • Sales commissions calculations and related reporting

  • Create and maintain process flow diagrams

  • Establishment, maintenance, and documentation of internal controls

  • Fulfillment of Audit and Control Testing data requests

  • Proactive facilitation of process improvements and problem solving

  • Supervise, develop, and provide feedback and direction to direct reports

  • Ad hoc reporting and analysis

The ideal candidate will have:


  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, accounting, finance, or related field preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience considered

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in progressively advancing accounting or finance roles

  • Working knowledge of General Accounting concepts and responsibilities:  accruals, audit documentation, bank and balance sheet reconciliations, commissions, customer and vendor rebates, fixed assets, internal controls, journal entries, payroll, prepaids, SOX testing

  • Financial Statement preparation and Sales Tax experience a plus.

  • Experience in manufacturing or distribution environment

  • Independent worker with supervisory/leadership experience

  • Solid interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with accounting staff, department managers, and senior management

  • Planning and organizational skills to balance and prioritize work in a fast-paced environment

  • Ability to quickly learn processes and systems

  • Strong process improvement skills

  • Solid analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Proactive can do/will do attitude

  • Advanced excel skills, including pivot tables and macros

  • AS400 and Sage experience a plus
