Building and Construction Systems, a business unit of Arconic, is the leading manufacturer of architectural aluminum products and systems for the commercial construction industry. Kawneer is part of Arconic's global Building and Construction Systems (BCS) business unit, which manufactures and markets architectural systems and products in North America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
BCS is currently in search of a Transportation Manager to lead our North American distribution network from our headquarters in Norcross, GA. The Transportation Manager will drive successful execution of a company-wide transportation program, while propelling continuous improvement activity and strategic logistics initiatives. This role can be located at one of Kawneer's North America Manufacturing Locations.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
Operations
Responsible for lane management of inbound and outbound transportation costs, shipment visibility and reporting.
Support day-to-day operations, including problem solving with Shipping and Project Management teams in locations and Service Centers regarding daily issues (missed pick-ups, trailer shortages, dropped loads, cancelled loads, etc.). Serve as help chain for escalating issues with carriers when needed.
Standardize and/or create metrics to quantify performance and identify levers requiring attention.
Drive resolution of quality concerns caused by transportation (internally and externally) with added vigor in root cause problem solving, action tracking and escalation as appropriate.
Accountable to optimize transportation across the network including shipping methods, and freight and lane types in effort to best service our internal and external customers.
Sourcing
Partner with plant locations and service centers to determine accurate freight requirements. Translate needs to Procurement partners for negotiations with 3rd Party transportation carriers via formal freight RFP's and ongoing business reviews.
Partner with commercial teams to identify and capture targeted market growth opportunities by leveraging a differentiated transportation service offering.
Execute strategic transportation sourcing initiatives including flatbed, dry van and open top trucking with existing carrier base. If the need for new supply source is identified, partner with Procurement to vet new carrier(s) accordingly.
Responsible for building and maintaining strategic operational relationships with trucking companies across North America to support transportation and logistics between Kawneer plants, service centers and customers.
Partner with Procurement to resolve carrier performance against contractual agreements if needed.
Financial Performance and Reporting
Drive process improvement and streamlining of operational and financial tracking and reporting processes.
Responsible for interpreting large sets of data and making strategic decisions while understanding the financial impacts.
Provide monthly reporting to stakeholders regarding location transportation spend.
Review weekly aging reports with identified location contacts to resolve past due carrier invoices.
Major Activities and Key Challenges Include:
Develop and support a strategic alliance with business partners. Participates in cross-functional activities focused on solving business issues and enhancing our competitive advantage.
Develop and execute a strategic roadmap to make transformative step-changes in the maturity level of Kawneer's Transportation Management System.
Assemble and lead an internal freight operations team to drive standardization of processes within Kawneer locations and adoption of best practices.
Lead continuous improvement of freight related processes for Kawneer, as well as champion the same expectation with 3 rd Party transportation carriers.
Basic Qualifications:
Driven individual, self-motivated to lead organizational change management
Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain/ Logistics Management, Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Business Administration or related field
5 years of professional experience in supply chain or equivalent experience
Proficient in Microsoft Office tools
Excellent written, and verbal communication skills
Well-versed in conflict management and negotiation strategies
Strong influencing skills with ability to lead, engage and energize diverse resources
Proven aptitude to effectively communicate in multi-cultural environments across multiple locations and all levels of the organization
Strategic mindset, able to understand the big picture and proactively address opportunities and remove roadblocks in the path of achieving goals
Innate ability to quickly respond to and consistently follow-up on internal stakeholder and external customer needs
Preferred Qualifications:
MBA/ MS or advanced degree preferred
10 yrs Experience with Specialty Freight types
7 yrs Experience with 3PL's or large-scale logistics operations
7 yrs Experience with logistics of metals
Advanced experience with business intelligence and analytic tools preferred
Demonstrated success developing and delivering complex distribution strategies
