SUMMARY

The Contractor is responsible for all coordination, organization, preparation, and performance of music presentations required supporting the Contemporary Worship Service.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Includes the following (Other duties may be assigned):

The contractor is responsible for all coordination, organization, preparation, and performance of music presentations required supporting Worship/Mass at Services held on Sundays, and one practice session per week (time to be determined by Contractor and chaplain-in-charge), both at the primary location - Chapel, (bldg. 810), and Solid Rock Café (bldg. 450). Services may be held at other Sheppard AFB locations, but will be announced by the chaplain-in-charge in time necessary to make adjustments for services to be rendered properly.

Contractor shall not remove any equipment from chapel facilities without prior written approval from the Wing Chaplain. Contractor shall be financially responsible for any loss or damage of equipment due to negligence.

The contractor will request music supplies by submitting a written request through the chaplain-in-charge of the service at least 14 days in advance of the required date supplies are needed. Contractor will include all information necessary to accomplish the request to include but not limited to source (or store) for purchase, store inventory/item number(s), description of item(s) and cost(s).

Provide praise team/musician leadership services, as required for 1100 Contemporary Services hosted in the Solid Rock Cafe at Sheppard Air Force Base.

Provide for special/holy days and funeral/memorial services as requested by Wing Chaplain, and/or chaplain-in-charge of the service.

Agree that worship services, funeral/memorial services and special/holy day will be approximately 1 to 2 hours in length.

Perform for each regular service by singing and playing praise/worship music, congregational hymns, preludes and postludes, and/or special music (approximately 52 services per year).

Perform for weekly rehearsals at a time to be agreed upon between the contractor and chaplain-in-charge of the service (approximately 52 services per year).

Perform for special/holy days/funeral/memorial/contingency services and additional practices (16 total per year).

Assist the chaplain-in-charge in the selection of suitable music (i.e., contemporary, traditional and/or liturgical) for all required worship services, and additional services performed as part of the contract. The contractor will proactively contact the chaplain-in-charge regarding the suitability of the music at least five (5) days prior to the performance for final approval.

Recruit and oversee volunteer musicians and choir performing in the worship service.

Wear appropriate attire while performing services. Contractor will be neatly attired and well groomed. Contractor must conduct her/him-self in a professional and businesslike manner.

Arrive no later than 30 minutes before the start of a service or rehearsal. Contractor will be responsible for preparation and restoration of both the music and altar area for services.

Ensure after each rehearsal that the altar area used is returned to its original condition (i.e. microphones, cords, and stands put away, papers from music and bulletins removed, all Protestant altar items returned to storage, etc.). Area must be in a neutral state prior to departing facility.

Furnish all personal transportation to and from the chapel or designated facility.

Ensure that the facility is properly secured and locked upon departure, or responsibility is turned over to a Chapel Staff member or responsible individual. Inform Chapel Facility Manager of any problems with the chapel facility.

Ensure any practice areas used are neat and returned to original condition.

SUPERVISORY/MANAGEMENT AUTHORITY

No supervisory requirement for this position.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Have a minimum of one (1) year experience leading Contemporary musical worship for a military chapel community or civilian church community. Professional music training is preferred. Reference letter is required from a Contemporary worship leader or equivalent to verify experience.

In order to determine qualifications, the contractor may be required to perform an audition for the chaplain-in-charge of the service, Wing Chaplain and/or other staff members as needed.

Furnish a resume including academic and applicable work history.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Must be a mature practicing Christian for at least five (5) years. Practicing is evidenced by regular attendance and involvement in a Protestant church community. Mature means person has daily or regular prayer life, daily or regular study time in the Bible, and has personal relationship with God according to a Protestant Christian doctrinal understanding. Reference letter is required from a religious leader or equivalent to verify.

Have the ability to lead vocally and play either the piano or guitar. Reading music or chord music is required.

Have the ability and willingness to provide services in a denominationally pluralistic and ecumenical chapel worship community; maintain healthy interpersonal relationships with colleagues, parishioners, and senior leadership.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The Contractor will fulfill duties at the Solid Rock Café (building 450), or Chapel (building 810) or other designated location, as directed by Contract Officer or designee. Services may be held at other Sheppard AFB locations, but will be announced by the -in-charge in time necessary to make adjustments for services to be rendered properly.

The Contractor will fulfill duties on Sundays (currently at 1100-1200), and one practice session per week (currently Wednesdays 1730-1630; time to be determined by Contractor and chaplain-in-charge), unless otherwise directed by Contract Officer or designee.

The Contractor will perform 2 hours per week, and the actual schedule will be confirmed, upon hiring, with the Contracting Officer. Schedule changes must be approved by Contracting Officer or designee, and Chapel Staff and parishioners notified of new hours of operations.
