Nemours is seeking an Ultrasound Technologist, (Casual/PRN), to join our team in Milford, Delaware.

The Ultrasound Technologist will perform ultrasound procedures under the direction of a physician with established methods and procedures, is responsible for patient care, proper operation of all general ultrasound equipment.  This position is responsible for the attainment and development of pediatric ultrasound imaging and pediatric patient care on shift to include triaging and assists in procedures with the Satellite. The ultrasound technologist should report to the Medical Imaging Administrative Director and /or Ultrasound Manager.

Responsible for participation in departmental and hospital programs for Quality Assessment and Improvement, identifying opportunities to improve services, making recommendations and implementing actions as appropriate and consistent with the goals of  Nemours.

***This position is 16 hours per week (2 days per week).  Position will be located at Milford, DE site.  Training will take place @AIDHC (Wilmington, DE) – training typically takes approximately 3 months (full time).***


  • Responsible for Patient/caregiver interactions and provides accurate preparation instructions to patient/caregiver with the ability to answer pertinent procedural questions.

  • Knowledge of Ultrasound Imaging protocols and a working knowledge of all ultrasound equipment. Responsible for patient identification, proper identification of all images, PACS interaction and documentation.  Operates hospital computer system for patient data entry and retrieval.

  • Responsible for screening of patients to be imaged for contraindications that may be hazardous to their health or to the safety of others. 

  • Must have the ability to work well with others, acts as a team member, positive role model. Ability to work independently and engage in critical thinking to improve the quality of care.

  • Creates a welcoming environment and acts as a patient advocate.

  • Observes, assesses, triages, and takes action on all patients according to protocol.

  • Provides quality patient care.

  • Performs, develops, and delivers ultrasound imaging according to protocol.

  • Coordinates ultrasound imaging to be viewed by a radiologist or to be released for follow-up care/call fax PCP with ultrasound report.

  • Performs and/or assists with procedures per P&P.

  • Aids in the training of new personnel, students and physicians.

  • Ensures proper function of equipment by proper usage and maintenance.  Reports unsafe conditions and incidents.

  • Regular attendance is required and this position is considered essential for purposes of staffing during severe weather emergencies and other natural disasters.

  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, must have reliable transportation and must be able to work on an on-call basis.

  • Good communication skills are required.  In addition to accepting feedback, asking questions and active communication with counterparts and all departments.

Job Requirements


  • Specialized (1 year of training beyond high school).

  • Minimum of three (3) months experience required.   New Grads will be considered for this position at the discretion of hiring manager and in lieu of prior work experience.

  • ARDMS registered or registry eligible - obtained within 1st year of employment.

  • CPR certification required.
