Our client seeks an exceptional writer/editor to work with our Communications Arts and Services group (CEA-CAS). CEA-CAS provides multidisciplinary, full-service communications support for organizations and programs with our client. The staff further the mission of the client by delivering strategic communications designed to inform, engage, and inspire both internal and external audiences.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
In this role, you will execute a communications strategy for one of the largest and most diverse scientific and technical organizations at the Laboratory. You will be embedded within this organization in order to work with researchers and communication professionals across the Laboratory to disseminate scientific and operational news and plans. Your work will be featured in a range of high-impact, high-visibility communication products - including magazines, newsletters, websites, and presentations.

You will edit existing material and create original content based on background research and interviews with subject matter experts. The successful candidate will be a go-getter and problem-solver, capable of coming up to speed quickly and delivering top-level customer service in a fast-paced environment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

- Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain the level of clearance mentioned

- Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, English, or related field required with 1-2 years of relevant experience or 5+ years of experience in case of lack of a degree

- Demonstrated ability to write and edit news and feature stories, preferably with scientific or technical content

- Ability to interpret and translate complex information - such as an organization's achievements, mission, strategy, and plans - so it can be understood by the target audience, drawing on existing content and interviews with subject matter experts

- Demonstrated track record of meeting strict deadlines with simultaneous attention to quality and detail

- Demonstrated ability to work effectively under pressure and balance multiple tasks of varying lengths and priorities both independently and as a member of a team

- Customer service experience in a fast-paced, high-volume environment required

- Ability to remain courteous and professional under pressure

- Verbal and written communication skills, problem-solving skills, customer service and interpersonal skills

- Experience working on communication products involving multiple authors and reviewers

- Demonstrated experience in process/performance improvement based on customer and manager feedback

- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Active DoE ‘Q' Clearance

- Basic skills using InDesign and/or other publication layout software, and Microsoft Excel

- Experience working in a large, complex institution or company
