SUMMARY

PSYCHIATRIC NURSE PRACTITIONER OR PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT-CONSULTATION PSYCHIATRY AT MMC

The Department of Psychiatry at Maine Medical Center (MMC) is seeking a full time Physician Assistant (PA) or Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join our inpatient Consultation and Liaison (CL) service. We are seeking a flexible clinician to provide primarily Tobacco Cessation consults on to patients throughout the hospital on medical/surgical floors, and also to provide general psychiatric consultations on one weekend day. This clinician would join the Consultation Liaison (CL) service in the Department of Psychiatry which collaborates with the other hospital psychiatry services, including a multidisciplinary neuropsychiatry/geripsychiatry unit, as well as the Acute Psychiatric Unit (APU) located adjacent to the Emergency Department. There is also significant collaboration with the primary medical/surgical teams and other consulting teams. The PA/NP is responsible for ensuring that our medical/surgical inpatients receive safe, effective, evidence based care for their Tobacco Use Disorder as well as other mental health problems. Some responsibilities will include:

* Providing Tobacco Treatment counseling and nicotine replacement to all patients admitted to have a Tobacco Use Disorder

* Performing initial and follow-up psychiatric consultation evaluations for patients admitted to the medical/surgical floors.

* Helping to manage substance use disorders and withdrawal.

* Reviewing laboratory and ancillary studies.

* Coordinating care with the attending psychiatrists, the primary medical/surgical teams, and other consulting teams

SCHEDULE: 4 weekdays (primarily Tobacco Treatment) and Saturdays (primarily acute psychiatric consults on medical/surgical floors)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's Degree required.
