Job Description:

In collaboration with College leadership and the University's Vice President and Chief Human Resource Officer, the Director of HR will design, implement and oversee human resource programs, policies, practices and procedures to ensure the recruitment, development, and retention of a highly qualified, diverse, and effective workforce for the College of Arts and Sciences. Develop and implement strategies to strengthen organizational effectiveness and collaboration within the college. Counsel and advise college leadership (Dean, Sr. Associate Deans, Associate Dean for Administration, college directors), department chairs, directors, supervisors and employees on HR policies, responsibilities, procedures, and available resources and services. Provide leadership in developing a sense of shared responsibility for a climate fostering cooperation and mutual respect. Serve as a member of the college's management group and the University's Vice President for Human Resources management staff. Lead experienced HR team of four, providing HR generalist and transactional academic and non-academic support to the college. Assist in managing the daily administrative operations of the college and its departments.

The College has over 500 tenure track faculty, 300 other teaching and research academics, and 300 non-academic staff in 40+ academic departments and academic programs, a student population of 4,100 undergraduate majors and 1,500 graduate students spread across 29 academic buildings. The overall College budget amounts to more than $400 million, including more than $37 million in sponsored research funding.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree plus 7-10 years relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience in academic and non-academic human resource management including dispute resolution, organizational development, leaves, promotions, compensation, recruitment, retention and operational management. Candidates must have demonstrated ability to positively affect organizational change and an ability to articulate and support diversity. Candidates should also have a proven ability to work effectively with a diverse population; must have the ability to work well in a team environment; and have strong written and verbal communication skills. Having prior general management experience, including an understanding of finance in relation to workforce budgeting is necessary. Having previously led HR personnel, or other administrative team members in support of a larger organization is a plus.
