Youth Media Producer

Full-time, Exempt, Grant Funded

ABOUT THE PBS NEWSHOUR STUDENT REPORTING LABS (SRL)

SRL is an award-winning national youth journalism program that connects classrooms and after school programs to local public media stations and the PBS NewsHour. SRL is a leader in the youth media landscape, currently operating in 150 school communities in 46 states. Thousands of teachers use SRL's journalism, civic engagement and video production resources, and participating students produce video journalism that is regularly featured on local and national news media. SRL consists of a small, ambitious and talented team of journalism and education professionals who work closely with a growing network of students, teachers and public media partners.

This is a 12-month, grant funded position. Continuation of role is dependent upon additional funding.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a talented and hard-working Youth Media Producer (YMP) who is passionate about video production, youth development, journalism, and creating opportunities for middle and high school students to produce meaningful content that inspires, educates and informs. You will act as the lead producer for a series of signature SRL tutorial videos, from concept to completion, and oversee the integration of SRL curricula on digital platforms. You will also manage a portfolio of after-school programs through a new partnership with Mizzen by Mott, an instructional app for strengthening after-school learning, and will provide critical mentoring and support to SRL x Mizzen educators and students.

YOUR FIRST 90 DAYS

During your first 90 days, you will be responsible for leading the production of a suite of curriculum videos. This will include recruiting staff to help you identify best practices during the development stage and working with a graphic designer and digital producer to create a content style guide for the videos.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

You will quickly adapt to working in a remote environment and seamlessly use different digital communication tools to connect with colleagues across the country. You understand the importance of working collaboratively to achieve a desired goal and will familiarize yourself with our mission, work, educational resources and survey other Youth Media Producers to learn our production priorities.

- Experience in project management.

- Highly proficient in entire Adobe Creative Suite.

- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

- College degree in film, journalism, communication, or related field; minimum 5 years professional experience producing journalism or education content; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

WHAT WE OFFER

- Generous 403(B) employer match

- Free parking (when we're back in the office)

- Holiday and paid leave programs

- Tuition reimbursement
