Department's Website:https://health.uark.edu/Summary of Job Duties:The Medical Billing and Patient Care Specialist is responsible for verifying insurance information prior to processing and auditing coding medical and billing information; assisting nursing personnel with prior authorization for medical procedures; on-call coverage for medical clinic intake areas, billing, and health information management. This position oversees the instruction regarding immunization compliance for incoming faculty/staff.

This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.Qualifications:

Salary Information:$31,000

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma

At least years of experience in healthcare or related field

Preferred Qualifications:

Certified Professional Coder (CPC) in ICD10

Demonstrated proficiency in physician-based outpatient medical office coding
-
Demonstrated familiarity with medical terminology and certification in health information management field

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
-
Knowledge of CPT procedural coding
-
Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, and physician-based outpatient medical office coding

Knowledge of departmental operations, policies, and procedures
-
Knowledge of applicable State and federal laws and regulations (e.g. insurance industry, HIPAA, FERPA)

Excellent customer service skills

Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills

Proficient skills in windows based computer systems and internet and ability to navigate electronic medical record and utilize various internet-based insurance web sites
