RN CLINICAL COORDINATOR OPERATING ROOM
POSITION SUMMARY: Registered Nurse with both administrative and clinical accountability to designated service area. Collaborates with Director to plan budget, staffing needs, and oversee competency of nursing staff in the OR. Provides leadership in growth and development of new services in area(s) of clinical leadership. Demonstrates clinical expertise in caring for patients within the perioperative setting, and practices accordance to AORN standards by maintaining CNOR certification.

If Registered Nurse functions in the role of Registered Nurse First Assistant after meeting credentialing criteria and carries out functions that will assist the surgeon in performing a safe operation with optimal results for the patient. The RNFA practices under the supervision of the surgeon during the first assisting phase of the intraoperative role.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: Demonstrates critical thinking skills, scientific judgment, and leadership in planning , directing, and provision of nursing care to patients in accordance with the N.H. Nurse Practice Act, recognized nursing techniques, and both clinical and administrative policies. Provides leadership and clinical support to staff and serves as management representative for the CVOR. The Clinical Coordinator working in the CVOR will be required to participate in unit based CQI initiatives.

SPECIFIC ELEMENTS & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

* Performs a thorough assessment in accordance with unit standards and or patient condition, and based on this assessment, plans and implements care appropriately.
* Provides monitoring/assessment of the patient receiving conscious sedation in accordance with the policy.
* Performs circulating duties according to procedure, demonstrating skill and efficiency, displaying the surgical consciousness required within this highly specialized environment.
* Performs scrub duties according to surgical protocol.
* Demonstrates ability to properly utilize all equipment for specific procedures or seeks appropriate resource.
* Assumes responsibility for knowledge of surgical procedures and associated nursing care. Seeks appropriate resource when necessary.
* Provides communication/visits peri-operatively to the patient's family and or significant other.
* Demonstrates self-direction above and beyond daily assignments and actively offers assistance to colleagues both within the main OR's, cardiac OR's and various other surgical services units.

Demonstrates ability to accurately and thoroughly complete peri-operative nursing record documentation, i.e. surgical site confirmation, patient identification verification.
*

Demonstrates colleagially behavior of respect and consideration with regard to work environment, i.e. restocking rooms, returning equipment/supplies for other surgical procedures, cleaning work areas/station and or communicate as appropriate.
*

Exhibits the knowledge and skills in applying the principles of aseptic technique and infection control.
*

Participates in unit specific work groups, independent projects or house wide committees to improve care.
*

Demonstrates clinical competence to practice direct patient care in General and Robotic procedures acting as a mentor to staff with the demonstrated ability to function in the circulating role.
*

Oversees day-to-day operations of the General/Robotic service line in meeting the mission of the company, hospital, and department, as well as supporting an environment of care to meet that mission and to comply with all regulatory requirements.
*

Collaborates with OR Manager and Educator to ensure proper education for all new and existing equipment/procedures.
*

Communicates effectively with staff, peers, external and internal customers, managers and administrators.
*

Utilizes quality improvement strategies to improve unit/departmental processes, and to meet goals.
*

Demonstrates effective leadership behaviors, modeling professionalism, accountability, and the pursuit of one's own professional growth and development.

QUALIFICATIONS

EXPERIENCE: (MINIMUM RELEVANT WORK EXPERIENCE FOR SUCCESSFUL JOB PERFORMANCE)
1 to 3 years of RN Operating Room experience or related experience

EDUCATION:

ADN, BSN preferred.

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

RN NH Nursing License and/or valid Compact State RN license

BLS (American Heart Association)

ACLS - within 60 days of hire CERTIFICATION PREFERRED
