Working as an INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY (IP) LEGAL COUNSEL at Signify provides a unique opportunity for you to push your technical and legal education and skills into the business side of IP through the monetization and leveraging of Signify s substantial patent portfolio at this crucial period in which the lighting industry is being redefined and transformed due to the rapid adoption of Light Emitting Diode (LED) technologies.

This role falls under the Creation and Counseling Team located in BURLINGTON, MA. Its responsibilities are to manage all aspects of IP for Signify and, accordingly, offers an excellent opportunity to learn and network with professionals throughout the world in order to increase your knowledge of intellectual property matters and to continue your professional development. You will be a contributing member of the Creation and Counseling Team working under the guidance, supervision and assistance of senior team members but with the opportunity to take on more responsibility and independence as additional experience is gained.

WHAT YOU LL DO

*

Process IP proposals, draft IP applications as well as prosecute IP applications, including instructing IP Counsels and IP agencies in other countries so as to ensure that the broadest possible protection can be obtained globally.
*

Propose and negotiate strategic IP solutions with regard to third parties and their IP.
*

Analyze patents and related products to investigate alleged infringement and validity of patents.
*

Work with outside counsel with regards to litigation.
*

Negotiate settlements/intellectual property licensing agreements with third parties.

WHAT YOU LL NEED

*

Must be able to work in the United States without corporate sponsorship now and within the future.
*

A JD or LLB in Law from an accredited Law School is required.
*

Undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or comparable degree.
*

Admission to practice law in at least one state in the US is required.,
*

Ability to demonstrates in-depth and/or breadth of understanding of the IP process and ability to handle non-standard situations independently.
*

A minimum of 6 years working experience in Intellectual Property as a qualified US patent attorney.
*

Admission to the USPTO (US Patent Trademark Office)
