Description

The Supervisor, in collaboration with and under the direction of the Cancer Center Director, is accountable for maintaining the American College of Surgeons' accreditation of the cancer program; maintaining the integrity of the cancer registry, coordinating weekly cancer conferences, quality control of cancer registry data, preparing patient care evaluation studies and outcomes, publishing the cancer program annual report, assisting the Cancer Tumor Registrars as needed; performing leadership and supervisory duties over the Cancer Registry Department, and performing other duties as required. The Supervisor coaches and guides employees under his/her supervision; demonstrates Professionalism and Excellence by acting as a role model for clinical and service excellence. Manages special projects as assigned by Cancer Center Director for the Oncology Service Line.

Requirements

EDUCATION: Associate of Science in Health Information Technology, or in Biology or other health care field preferred

CERTIFICATION/LICENSES: Certified Tumor Registrar preferred; RRA or ART preferred;

SKILLS: Data coding, Medical Terminology, Anatomy & Physiology, basic keyboarding/data entry; basic knowledge of Windows-based software; excellent organizational skills with detail orientation and good follow through; excellent verbal and written communication skills, ACoS-FORDS coding; ICD-10 coding, AJCC Cancer Staging and Collaborative Staging Manuals; excellent investigative/analytic skills with detail orientation; and data quality control. Ability to work effectively with physicians and coworkers.

EXPERIENCE: Hospital cancer registry experience preferred; State cancer registry experience acceptable. Previous ACoS and NAPBC accreditation experience preferred

NATURE OF SUPERVISION:

-Responsible to: Director of Cancer Center

ENVIRONMENT: Requires knowledge of general safety standards to limit exposure to infectious disease. Daily contact with infectious diseases and body fluids.

- Blood borne pathogens: C

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Bending, stooping, and lifting up to 35 lbs, reaching above head and below knee level. Utilization of proper body mechanics.
