  • Responsibilities:

1.  Plans, documents, and prepares curriculum and instruction for Field Personnel Orientation (FPO) and Stateside Assignment Conference (SAC) for youth. 


  • FPO – Ensure that lessons align with adult curriculum on an age appropriate level, help students understand and embrace their new life overseas as Third Culture Kids (TCKs), as well as maintaining basic skill levels in math and language arts and/or assisting in minimal homeschooling for 1-2 hours per day as needed.

  • SAC – Lessons include activities for debriefing experiences of previous term on the field, re-entry into U.S. culture, and cultivating spiritual development.

  • Missionary Kid (MK) Reentry Retreat - assists with curriculum and implementation of MK Reentry Retreat annually.

All programs will include lessons related to the blessing and challenges of being a TCK as well as strategies for dealing with stress and thriving through transition.

2.  Delivers effective instruction of curriculum for FPO and SAC.  Manages classroom climate and operations by building positive relationships with students and using age appropriate behavior management techniques. 

3.  Observes, documents, and reports academic, developmental, social, behavioral and spiritual progress of students.  When concerns arise, teacher involves parents, director and others within the multidisciplinary team and makes recommendations for how to best meet the child's needs.

4.  Trains and directs assistants assigned to their classroom for each program (temps, and volunteers).  Clearly explains classroom procedures and expectations using introductory emails, pre-program training, checklists, and evaluation tools to ensure that assistants adequately perform the duties of their role on a daily basis.  Gives guidance or redirection when necessary.

5.  Provides clear and consistent communication:


  • Communicates information related to classroom schedules, lessons/activities, student needs, resource needs, and other pertinent information to parents, co-workers, and appropriate others. 

  • Resources parents in building appropriate skills for learning, living and ministering cross-culturally as a family.

6.  Provides a clean and safe learning environment by following all safety procedures as outlined in policy.  Creates a welcoming and stimulating environment for youth in each program.  This includes creating and displaying items related to the various curriculum objectives for each individual program and personalizing items in the classrooms to promote a sense of belonging for each child.  

Requirements:


  • Teaching Certificate preferred, or provisional certificate to be obtained within the first year. 

  • Bachelor's degree

  • 3 years minimum experience teaching youth required. 

  • 3 years minimum experience working with TCKs preferred.

  • At least 1 year overseas/cross cultural experience or training required.

  • High initiative

  • Experience creating and writing curriculum

  • Current First aid and CPR certification

  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint

  • Southern Baptist Convention knowledge
