Job Description:

Idaho Forest Group is currently seeking a Compliance and Safety Training Specialist to join our team in Lewiston.
Serves as a key technical resource to develop and implement health and safety programs. Ensures that working conditions at the sites meet applicable federal and state laws.


Essential Functions:


 



  • Provide health and safety leadership and ensure a workplace free from serious hazards. Comply with standards, rules, and regulations issued under OSHA, federal, state, and local levels create a culture of zero injuries.

  • Conduct safety inspections and lead annual safety and health audit with the help of other Idaho Forest Group safety personnel and other safety professionals.

  • Review audit report findings with management staff and assign responsibilities and target dates for completion. Follow up quarterly to ensure that all items are completed. Modify policies and procedures as needed.

  • Research and stay well informed on new regulations and develop initial recommendations for their implementation. Act as a resource to handle concerns regarding OSHA procedures and compliance.

  • Participate in monthly safety committee activities. Directly serve as a member of site teams or councils as appropriate.

  • Communicate with management on status of all incidents and action items.

  • Maintain an up to date OSHA 300 log by entering all recordable incidents within the designated time frame.

  • Review all safety observations done on the site. Enter observations into the behavior observation database. Send out reports to each department monthly.

  • Work with supervisors to perform incident investigations, including root cause analysis and follow-up.

  • Provide accident investigation training for supervisors on an annual basis.

  • Review all incident reports regularly. Analyze all cases and take necessary steps to ensure that accident investigations are conducted in a timely manner and have appropriate action plans that are carried out. Maintain data management system for the retention and evaluation of these incidents.

  • Develop safety meeting presentations for scheduled classroom training. Track and maintain safety training records using the site’s training tracker program. Coordinate and distribute safety training schedule annually. Regularly update supervisors, superintendents and managers on employees’ training status.

  • Develop strong relationships and work as part of a team with all levels of leadership and employees.

  • Promote and facilitate the department safety committees in all their activities and in maintaining the behavior-based observation process.

  • Develop and implement Job Safety Analysis (JSA’s) and Safe Operating Procedures (SOP’s).

  • Manage new employee safety training and integration into the workforce.

  • Consistently work at acceptable production levels

  • Other duties as needed

 


Specific job duties may vary per mill & based on machinery, but this description is intended to cover the baseline.  Ask your supervisor or HR if there are addendums for site specific variances.


 


Qualifications:


 



  • High school diploma required. Associate or Bachelor’s degree in safety or related field preferred.

  • A minimum of three years’ experience as a Safety Professional, or secondary education in Occupational Safety area of study

  • Intermediate proficiency of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Access).

  • Knowledge of industrial safety practices and principles including OSHA regulations, accident investigation knowledge and training.

  • Expertise in manufacturing safety hazards and controls such as lockout/tagout, confined space, combustible dust, environmental, mobile equipment, etc.

  • Knowledge in Industrial Hygiene including monitoring equipment (pumps, dosimeters, calibrators).

  • Excellent communication and training/presentation skills.

  • Valid Driver’s License

  • Pass a drug, physical, and background check

Physical Requirements:


Ability to sit and/or stand for shift, reach with hands and arms, stoop, squat, bend at the waist, kneel, walk varying distance, and climb stairs.  Must be able to tolerate all weather elements, loud conditions, airborne particles (sawdust). Perform work both in an office setting and manufacturing environment while sitting or standing at a computer. Walking plant site.
