DEPARTMENT SUMMARY
The new Orthopedic unit consists of 30 beds located on the 6th floor at North Florida Regional Medical Center. Our specialty focus includes patients undergoing total joint replacement surgery, fractures and fracture repairs, osteomyelitis and minor trauma. We collaborate with nationally recognized orthopedic surgeons specializing in hip, knee, ankle and shoulder surgeries to assist patients achieve their maximum mobility and independence. Our multidisciplinary care team works together to coordinate individualized care and optimize patient outcomes through evidence based practice and exceptional care.

The Orthopedic Surgery team is committed to the highest standards of nursing practice and clinical excellence for the optimal care of our patients. As we continue our journey to excellence; many nurses on our team are nationally certified by the Orthopedic Nurse Certification Board or actively in the process of becoming certified. Our unit was the first at NFRMC to be recognized for reaching the 2 year ZERO CLABSI milestone and the first to achieve the 1 year CA-UTI Free milestone.

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Orthopedic Nurse Navigator functions as a member of the multidisciplinary team and serves as an advocate and educator for patients through end of active treatment. The Orthopedic Nurse Navigator's primary function is to ensure the patient remains compliant to the treatment plan. Nurse Navigators achieve this goal by building relationships with patients and physicians, coordinating the plan of care, assisting with appointments, transportation needs, education, resource provision and/or representation within the multidisciplinary care environment. The Nurse Navigator also assumes responsibility and accountability for the management of resources to achieve efficient, high-quality outcomes for Ortho patients, including support with interdisciplinary and cross-facility coverage and collaboration.

The Navigator will serve as a liaison between the patient and family, all physicians involved in that patient's care, internal and external healthcare providers, support network members, and the wider healthcare community.

* Understanding of Orthopedics

* Ability to effectively and efficiently track the care delivery process for each patient with the attention to detail to identify where intervention is required

* Ability to think critically

* Ability to collaborate with physician offices for appointment scheduling and attendance

* Ability to self-direct, including prioritization of multiple simultaneous tasks

* Ability to empathetically, openly and supportively communicate both verbally and in written media

* Ability to maintain strict confidentiality

* Ability to demonstrate sensitivity to cultural needs

* Ability to seek regular input in order to build/foster strong self-awareness

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited school of Nursing (BSN)
3+ years of Orthopedic registered nursing experience

Basic Life Support (BLS)

Registered Nurse licensed in state of Florida or Compact State RN License

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
Orthopedic Nurse Navigator experience
Experience in program development
Experience in leadership

Customer service abilities including effective listening skills. Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast paced environment. Ability to perform work that requires frequent standing, bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, moving, lifting of patients and/or equipment up to 50 pounds.
