The Office for Health Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (HEDI) is responsible for reporting, consulting, coaching, and training on diversity, equity, and inclusion for the entire UCDH campus including all employees (faculty, academic personnel, staff and residents), trainees, and students and all units or programs.

Responsibilities
This is a full-time appointment that will report directly to the Associate Vice Chancellor (AVC) for Health Equity, Diversity and Inclusion. The Senior Director of Institutional Culture, Climate & Community Engagement is responsible for leading the efforts that will transition the University of California Davis Health (UCDH) to become a fully inclusive, anti-racist, and multicultural organization that values and actualizes health equity, diversity and inclusion, and integrates the Principles of Community across our tri-part mission. The Senior Director will be primarily responsible for overseeing the design, development and implementation of: culture/climate needs assessment and reporting; professional leadership development; the Continuous Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Improvement Program; community/stakeholder engagement. These activities will require the Senior Director to work directly with leadership in the UC Davis DEI Office, School of Medicine (SOM), Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing (BIMSON), Physicians Practice Management Group (PPMG), and UC Davis Medical Center (UCDMC), and across educational and training programs including Faculty Development, Graduate Medical Education, Undergraduate Medical Education and other educational programs. Additionally, the Senior Director will be expected to coordinate activities and work collaboratively with Human Resources and the Affirmative Action/Employee Equal Opportunity Office, Office of Student and Resident Diversity, the Center for Reducing Health Disparities, the staff affinity/employee resource groups, and health profession student organizations.

Required Qualifications

* Bachelor s degree in education, public health, human resources, communications or similar field.

* Minimum of five years of experience in human resources, medical education, or professional or organizational development role.

* Minimum of five years working with underrepresented students, residents, faculty, staff, or with underrepresented population groups.

* Leadership experience and skills to work across different levels and functions to build relationships with key stakeholders and champions.

* Strong communication skills to be able to effectively and articulately communicate to broad audiences and to build/maintain productive professional relationships.

* Demonstrated experience in the development, design, implementation and facilitation of diversity and competency training workshops.

* Demonstrated understanding of and experience with multiple facets of diversity with a focus on intersectionality: cultural, ethnic, racial, religious, gender, educational, age, sexual orientation, linguistic, professional, and other differences that make an individual unique.

* Experience in effectively managing conflicts and conflict resolution using restorative justice practices.

* Strong writing skills and experience to develop executive summary documents and annual reports.

* Human Resources experience to perform supervision of staff and trainees, including coaching, performance development and management.

* Excellent organizational, event planning, and cultural sensitivity skills are required.

* Experience with detailed tasks, record keeping and database management skills.

* Strong project management skills to handle complex projects simultaneously.

Preferred Qualifications

* Master s degree in communications, human resources, public health, liberal arts, humanities, or education.

* At least five years of experience working with medical students and faculty.

* A proven track record of setting a vision and strategy for an HR function or group and driving solutions and practices that are both innovative and resourceful.

* Demonstrated good judgment; ability to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions or approaches.

* A personable leader who inspires ideas, encourages, tests & learns, and takes well thought out risks.

* Demonstrated experience in strategic decision making.
