Job Description:

Arcadis is currently searching for a Senior Mechanical Engineer specializing in HVAC and plumbing with 20 years' experience, to join our Water - Building Design Services team, out of our White Plains, NY office.

This is an extraordinary opportunity for a self-motivated engineer to join a global leader and make an immediate impact, leading projects, and mentoring staff. The Sr. Mechanical Engineer will be involved in a variety of HVAC and Plumbing design projects, with support from a strong nationally recognized technical staff, at one of the best-qualified consulting firms, around the world. They will utilize their expertise and technical knowledge to not only lead projects, but to also manage clients and direct the development of design & construction projects and participate on a variety of project pursuits within this market.

Position responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


  • Provides HVAC and plumbing design & construction services for municipal and industrial water / wastewater facilities to a diverse client base in the Northeast and across the US.
  • Leads a team of engineers and design/drafters on multiple projects simultaneously and utilizes technical knowledge and experience to develop teams' overall capabilities.
  • Accountable as Project and/or Task Manager for the planning, design, and construction of mechanical systems. Meeting established budgets and delivery schedules for each assignment; for project/task scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Work's directly with clients to determine needs and provides solutions.
  • Coordinates execution of projects with other disciplines and/or the Sr. Project Manager or Program Manager.
  • Develops design projects from inception to completion and prepares complete construction packages for the engineering and construction of mechanical systems for clients.
  • Performs heating and cooling load analysis.
  • Prepares packages for the procurement of equipment.
  • Provides support for construction, commissioning and start-up projects as needed.
  • Creates and manages cost estimates and project schedules and will be responsible for completing design tasks within budget and on schedule.
  • Maintain standards and specifications for mechanical engineering on assigned projects.

Key Attributes:


  • Demonstrates strong technical and leadership experience leading a team of 3 or more, coordinating and managing task and/or project work as a Project or Senior Mechanical Engineer.
  • Demonstrates client management and relationship building skills, including preparation and development of proposals and presentations, participation in client interviews, managing client expectations, etc.
  • Experience approving project drawings, specifications, schedules, and cost estimates.
  • AutoCAD and Revit knowledge with the ability to communicate design strategies to a drafting department to create construction documents.
  • Must have a broad understanding of HVAC and plumbing systems and their application.
  • HVAC load calculation software experience (e.g. - Carrier HAP, Trane Trace).
  • Must possess excellent, clear, and concise written and oral communication skills.
  • Functional experience with MS Office applications.

Required Minimum Qualifications:


  • 20 years' experience in HVAC and Plumbing detailed design.
  • Bachelors' degree in mechanical engineering, mechanical engineering technology or a related field of study.
  • Professional Engineer license.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • 20 years' specialized experience with HVAC and plumbing design & construction specifically for municipal and/or industrial water and wastewater facilities.
  • Plumbing & fire protection design knowledge.
  • ASHRAE association or similar preferred.
  • LEED AP
  • 3D CAD software experience.
