Position Responsibilities


  • Plans, schedules, and organizes, SOM’s field efforts in close collaboration with the project Senior Designer, Senior Technical Design and Project Manager

  • Provides support for the project team relative to Construction Phase Services

  • Participates in a project’s or an assigned portion of a project’s coordination and quality control efforts during all phases of project work in close collaboration with a Senior Designer and a Senior Technical Designer

  • Assists with the planning, scheduling, and organization of project plans relative to field and technical design efforts and processes in collaboration with the senior project team leaders.

  • Seeks creative and innovative solutions to assigned tasks and develops appropriate research and documentation to support these solutions

  • Drives collaborative relationship with consultants and knowledge resources to ensure that deliverables are coordinated, integrated and support the performance goals of the project

  • Organizes own work efforts and that of his/her assigned team

  • Contributes to preparation of design documents and leads the detailed development of construction documents during all project phases

  • Participates in the review of design and construction documents in order to confirm compliance with the contract deliverables

  • Directly assists and mentors assigned team members

  • Sets an example for team effort through the spirit of cooperation

  • Proactively checks and coordinates project documents (including but not limited to drawing set organization, details, dimensions, interdisciplinary coordination

  • items, specifications coordination, etc.) and participates in quality control of such tasks in accordance with SOM’s quality assurance program

  • Proactively checks, coordinates and integrates work with other project team

  • members who are working on adjacent or otherwise relevant project areas that may not be in the assigned task area

  • Participates in the management and review of shop drawings and sample submittals

  • Coordinates and develops responses to contractor questions, inquiries, RFI’s etc. and assists fellow team members and direct reports to that end

  • Prepares punch-lists and field observation reports and coordinates with fellow team members and direct reports to that end

  • Makes appropriate value judgments with respect to field corrective work that supports the design intent and performance goals of the project

  • Participates in project document control tasks and assists with the quality control of such tasks in accordance with SOM’s quality assurance program

  • Actively supports compliance with BIM/CAD project standards and procedures

  • Demonstrates leadership, along with other Senior Technical Design Professionals, implementing SOM’s standard procedures and protocols to assure continuity and consistency of our project contract deliverables across the firm in support of overall firm wide goals

Leadership Responsibilities


  • Actively leads projects, teams and initiatives.

  • Directly trains and mentors team members and, more broadly, interiors, architectural, engineers, planning and graphics staff in the office and at large as appropriate.

  • Directly supervises staff and is committed to direct reports' professional development.

  • Develops and engages in talent strategy to find specialists, leaders, and future professionals for the firm through recruitment, resume reviews and interviews.

  • Actively engages in internal and external professional development opportunities.

  • Develops and/or manages, in collaboration with team members, a clear and consistent work plan to achieve the project budget, deliverables, and schedule. Actively monitor and assess progress with leadership through all phases of the project.

  • Demonstrates leadership in the implementation of sustainable strategies in all project assignments and the associated development of staff knowledge.

  • Coordinates and supports business development, public relations, and marketing opportunities.

  • Leads in the development of standards, policies, and procedures.

  • Protects SOM from financial and legal risk.

   

Minimum Qualifications


  • Minimum 7 years of professional experience, professional licensure process is close to completion.

  • Completion of a professional degree in Architecture or a related field.

  • Demonstrates proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Rhino, parametric and rendering software, and other graphic software.

  • LEED accreditation preferred.
