POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Principal Design Automation Engineer serves as a leader to support the Computer Aided Design (CAD) efforts to support the design, development and launch of medical devices.

This position requires collaborative interaction with Manufacturing, Quality, and other key functions to achieve business deliverables. This role is an individual contributor within Medtronic's EndoVenous business.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as a project leader / manager for cross-functional efforts


  • Provide technical mentoring to less experienced engineers


  • Develop strong partnerships and work effectively with cross-functional team members


  • Perform job functions in accordance with applicable GMP and ISO standards


  • Comply with applicable FDA and international regulatory laws and standards


  • Develops and applies computer aided design (CAD) software engineering methods, theories and research techniques in the investigation and solution of technical problems.


  • Assessing architecture and hardware limitations, plans technical projects in the design and development of CAD software.


  • Defines and selects new approaches and implementation of CAD software engineering applications and design specifications and parameters.


  • Develops routines and utility programs.


  • Prepares design specifications, analysis and recommendations for presentation and approval.


  • May specify materials, equipment and supplies required for completion of projects and may evaluate vendor capabilities to provide required products or services.

    TECHNICAL SPECIALIST CAREER STREAM:


    An individual contributor with responsibility in our technical functions to advance existing technology or introduce new technology and therapies. Formulates, delivers and/or manages projects assigned and works with other stakeholders to achieve desired results. May act as a mentor to colleagues or may direct the work of other lower level professionals. The majority of time is spent delivering R&D, systems or initiatives related to new technologies or therapies - from design to implementation - while adhering to policies, using specialized knowledge and skills.


    Must Have: Minimum Requirements



    • Bachelors degree required
    • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience

    Job Competencies:



  • Medical device industry experience including design controls, quality system regulations and product development processes


  • Excellent oral and written communication skills


  • Ability to effectively manage and prioritize multiple tasks and projects in an ambiguous environment


  • Experience with SolidWorks


  • Experience supporting digital thread


  • Experience with supporting endovascular catheter products, processing and technologies


  • Experience with supporting failure analysis, process improvements and change management


  • Experience with supporting manufacturing processes and Contract Manufacturers


  • Strong problem solving capabilities


  • Mastery of a specialty area and full knowledge of industry practices, typically obtained through advanced education combined with experience.


  • May have broad knowledge of project management.

    Autonomy:


    Recognized expert, managing large projects or processes.


    Exercises considerable latitude in determining deliverables of assignments, with limited oversight from manager.


    Coaches, reviews and delegates work to lower level specialists.

    Contributes to defining the direction for new products, processes, standards, or operational plans based on business strategy with a significant impact on work group results.
    May manage large projects or processes that span outside of immediate job area.
