Job Description:

This program is intended to provide a student/intern an all-around introduction to professional airport management and operations at a public use general aviation/commercial service airport. At the end of the internship period, the intern is intended to be able to demonstrate adequate knowledge of airport management and operations.

The hiring range for this position is $14.00 - $16.00, depending on qualifications and experience.

Position will close to applicants on: 12/11/2020 at 4:30 P.M. M.S.T.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

The duties will be directly related to the management and operation of the Airport and will involve both inside and outside work. Work duties will generally include airport management functions, airfield operations, airport maintenance activities (including operation of maintenance equipment), airport finance and budgeting, marketing and promotions, aircraft rescue and firefighting, and special projects.  While the intern will work directly for the Airport Operations Manager, he/she may routinely work under the supervision of other airport staff members.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

Compliance, inspection and record keeping of the Airport FAR 139 Certification Manual (ACM), Airport Security Plan (ASP), Airport Wildlife Management Plan and Storm Water Management Plan.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

Should have basic understanding and knowledge of aviation/airport operations, and working knowledge of modern office practices and equipment, including personal computers, and MS office software. Must have the ability to read and follow written instructions, operate office equipment, and effectively communicate information, verbally and in writing, in a positive and professional manner with staff and general public. Ability to perform strenuous physical work inside and outside.  Applicant will be subject to TSA background check requirements, and must be able to obtain clearance to work within airport secured areas. Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Education and/or formal training:

Formal training in an aviation/airport curriculum and basic aviation/airport knowledge is required.

Experience:

Previous work experience in an aviation/airport environment preferred as well as administrative and customer service knowledge and/or experience.

Licensure and Certifications:

Must possess a valid driver license.

Material and equipment directly used:

Multi-line telephone system, personal computer, printer, copier, fax machine, and ten-key calculator. Based on license and/or certifications applicant may use city vehicles, hand and power tools, welding equipment, mowers, and possibly tractors, dump trucks, front end loader, and snow removal equipment.

Working environment/physical activities: 

Performs duties in several different locations, which includes traveling between buildings, airport perimeter and on the airport’s runways and taxiways. Performing security related activities outside on the ramp area in all weather conditions may be required. Position is required to drive motorized vehicles, climb ladders, push, pull, stoop, kneel, and crawl to perform the essential functions of the job. Typical office environment requires sitting for extended periods of time, reaching and repetitive keyboard/typing motion. Office may be noisy at times due to location within fire department station, and may be subject to occasional engine noise, diesel fumes, and exhaust.
