SUMMARY: The contractor shall provide laboratory support with laboratory experiments in BSL-2, BSL-3 and BSL-4 laboratories and thus must hold and maintain BPRP status, in accordance the provisions in this contract and applicable regulations. The contractor shall aid in the execution of scientific studies, basic cell culture, and plaque assays, polymerase chain reaction (PCR), other assays, animal procedures, collection/data analyzing, and maintenance of laboratory and laboratory equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

As a member of the Virology group, you will work as part of a team working with viruses in BSL-2, BSL-3 and BSL-4 environments. The individual will be familiar with standard molecular and microbiological techniques; be well organized; and be able to plan, troubleshoot, and execute studies with a high attention to detail.


  • Serve as mentor in BSL3 or BSL 4
  • Prepare for and participate in BSL2 and BSL3 lab inspections
  • Participate in Non-human Primate studies
  • Participate in rodent studies
  • Perform basic lab skills
  • Assess and maintain laboratory supplies using GFEBS and DMLSS

SUPERVISORY/MANAGEMENT AUTHORITY


  • This position will not have supervisory authority

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE


  • Preferred Master's degree or the equivalent in Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Immunology, Biology, or a related field
  • Preferred 4 years' experience in a virology laboratory
  • Preferred prior experience in BSL-3 and BSL-4 laboratories
  • Preferred prior clinical diagnostics and regulatory laboratory experience
  • US citizenship

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES


  • Preferred experience in BSL3 and BSL 4 environments
  • Preferred experience with animal inoculations, tissue collection and conduct bleeding
  • Preferred experience in basic cell culture, plaque assays, plaque reduction neutralization test, PCR, ELISA, Western Blot, flow cytometry and clinical laboratory tests on animal samples
  • Attention to details; accurate record keeping; willingness to work in BSL-2, BSL-3 and BSL-4 high containment laboratories
  • Ability to plan, troubleshoot, and execute laboratory studies and equipment in a highly regulated environment
  • Ability to work in a matrixed, team-oriented environment involving multiple projects
  • Ability to secure and maintain a security clearance and enrollment in the Biosurety Personnel Reliability Program (BPRP)

WORK ENVIRONMENT


  • Work is conducted in a climate controlled office or laboratory
