The Energy Storage and Advanced Transportation Department at INL is seeking a core team member to help transform mobility by advancing understanding of the next generation of electric vehicle charging infrastructure. The Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Research Engineer will join a team of researchers passionate about advancing the future of electrified transportation by enhancing knowledge related to how electric vehicles fit within an integrated energy system that incorporates clean energy generation, energy storage and controllable loads.

The chosen candidate will have experience and desire to achieve research-based operational excellence in advancing the use of electric vehicle charging infrastructure. The ability to interact and effectively coordinate research activities with industry and other laboratories is essential.

Advancing the role of electric vehicles as part of the future of mobility will require a candidate that is skilled in working with hardware including AC, DC, and wireless electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) and in performing advanced data collection and analysis. The ability to work closely in a multi-organizational team is critical for this role.

* Directly interact with multiple members of the R&D staff including other principal investigators, research scientists and engineers, group leads and laboratory management personnel.

* Capture data and perform analysis that increases understanding on the impacts related to electric vehicle infrastructure

* Design and integrate unique methods for acquiring and analyzing unique data streams

* Support multiple groups and the research mission in Integrated Energy Systems within the department and directorate as necessary

* Effectively communicate research findings and needs through presentations and peer-reviewed literature to internal and external audiences including sponsors, industry and other stakeholders

* Perform activities related to supporting group leads, relationship managers and department manager in research development, preparation of proposals and interaction with sponsors.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

* Minimum of a BS in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, automotive engineering or related engineering field and 2 years of experience, MS and 1 year of experience, or a PhD.

* Demonstrated experience in presenting research results in the form of published literature and presentations

* Demonstrated experience in data acquisition, experimental design and planning

* Experience designing, developing, and/or conducting experiments with electrical equipment

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

* M.S. and 2-4 years relevant experience or Ph.D and 1-3 years relevant experience

* leading research projects with multiple team members

* In depth understanding of high-power EVSE

* Basic understanding of wireless communication and energy transfer

* Experience working with high voltage equipment

* Demonstrated record of peer reviewed publications
