INL's Environment Science and Technology (EES&T) directorate is seeking Department Manager of the Chemical and Radiation Measurement department the manager will lead a number of technical groups focused on the development and application of specialty analysis techniques for chemical, radiological analysis and biomass characterization.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

* Leading all aspects of and integrating activities at several laboratory locations including the Radio analytical Group and RTC, the Environmental Chemistry Laboratory at the Central Facilities Area, and laboratories at the IRC in the REC.

* Spending equal amounts of time at the site laboratories and the town laboratories.

* Working closely with group leads and other technical staff within the department to refine, maintain and expand the departmental core capabilities and with the technical staff to find opportunities

* to apply core departmental capabilities to the needs of both internal and external customers.

* Developing and executing plans to ensure appropriate technical expertise is resident in the department including mentoring and development of junior level technical staff.

* Making recommendations on investments of business development funds and LDRD investments applicable to the department and proactively engage peers across INL to develop understanding of INL needs, opportunities, and funding agency research priorities.

* Setting the tone for produce high quality technical products meeting or exceeding customer expectations and will work to ensure that the staff have the appropriate tools to produce quality results.

* Maintaining active research involvement in technical project activities and to set the tone to communicate technical results through participation in professional society technical conferences and publications in applicable journals as appropriate.

* Proactively engaging departmental technical staff to pursue new funding opportunities, collaboration, and customers both internally and externally.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

* Masters degree or above in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a closely-related engineering field. At least 10 years of relevant experience with a Masters or 5 years with a Doctorate. At least 2 years of experience in project/program management. (combined the first two bullets related to education and experience)

* A publication record in recognized chemistry, chemical engineering, or other technical journals.

* Recognition through a national (or international) reputation within the chemical and/or radiation measurement community, an established or developing thought-leader in this discipline.

* Experience in methods development for non routine analytical procedures is beneficial.

* Must be able to qualify as Radiation Worker

* Wide collaboration and connection with related federal and state agencies, universities, and industries.
