Division Overview

Hubbell Power Systems (HPS) engages in the design and manufacture of a wide variety of products used by utilities. Today, HPS is deeply engaged in product solutions for OSP Communication utility purposes, and has been actively growing that segment of the business. HPS roots have historically been in high voltage transmission, distribution, substation, underground products used by electric utilities. HPS products are also used in the civil construction, transportation, gas and water industries.

Position Overview

Under the direction of the Environmental Health & Safety Manager, ensures proper disposal of hazardous wastes generated at the Hubbell - Aiken, SC facility. Responds to incidents throughout the facility for immediate reporting. Implements environmental, health and safety (EH&S) compliance programs and actions to ensure compliance with local, state and federal environmental, health, and safety regulations. Conducts and documents safety inspections, citing dangerous areas and procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities

- Implements safety and environmental compliance programs and actions to ensure compliance with company, state, and federal safety policies and regulations.

- Implements and monitors environmental, health and safety programs including injury reduction, industrial safety, waste management, air emissions, wastewater discharge, and spill/emergency response.

- Conducts and documents safety and environmental inspections as required. Inspects and documents work areas to ensure the presence of appropriate fire protection equipment, safety equipment, first-aid supplies, and environmental compliance.

- Assists the EHS Manager in the development and execution EHS training programs for employees in areas, such as, regulated EHS training, hazardous material safety and handling, emergency response, waste management, and life safety.

- Ensures compliance regarding hazardous chemicals and substances right to know and related regulations.

- Collects or arranges for sample collection of hazardous materials, gasses, vapors, or other potentially toxic materials for analysis or testing.

- Orders suspension of activities with the concurrence of the EHS Manager that poses a threat to workers health and safety.

- Implements emergency response plans and procedures.

- Function as the primary or alternate Emergency Coordinator as assigned.

- Maintains safety equipment and consumables supply and availability. Ensures all first aid kits are replenished and maintained as required. Ensures eye wash bottles are replenished and maintained as required.

- Reads and researches relevant subject matter to maintain current knowledge and competencies in the, health, and safety field.

- Provide technical support to pollution and / or risk prevention projects as assigned.

- Provide education and training to personnel as required to assure sustainable programs and processes within the EHS responsibilities of FAS.

- Performs other duties as assigned.

Skills and Experience

WORK RELATED SKILLS: Detail oriented, compliance minded, and keen interpersonal skills are necessary to perform effectively in the position.

EXPERIENCE: Minimum of one year of experience in the Environmental Health and Safety field.

EDUCATION: Associate degree or equivalent education credentials in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, a relevant technical or engineering discipline, or an equivalent background of experience and training providing knowledge of appropriate environmental, health and safety practices, principles and procedures preferred.

COMPUTER SKILLS: Position requires basic proficiency in software applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work is performed in a manufacturing environment. Frequent heavy lifting, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, kneeling, pushing and pulling.

SAFETY: Works safely and follow safety rules and regulations. Reports unsafe working conditions and behavior. Take actions to prevent others from engaging in unsafe practices. Adhere to Hubbell's safety culture.

Education

Associates Degree in Environmental Science or Engineering General
