The Senior Buyer/Planner is responsible for efficiently managing the overall supply chain and purchasing requirements for Medtronic Diabetes products. This position will champion supply chain initiatives and support the department's strategic goals and objectives with limited direct supervision. Primary responsibility will be ensuring product availability while meeting inventory targets.

A Day in the Life

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.



  • Plan and procure materials and services to support build plans, forecasts, and changing sales demand.



  • Analyze forecast and actual consumption history for trends and maintain optimal safety stock and inventory levels to ensure product availability.



  • Maintain and promote strong relationships with suppliers, Supplier Quality, Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, Finance, Sales & Marketing, Distribution, and any other internal customers.



  • Be responsible for the accuracy of the data that drives the system interface and subsequent output (i.e., delivery dates, lead times, minimum order quantity, safety stock, parent-child relationships, etc.).



  • Actively participate and drive in efforts to lower inventory and drive down material costs.



  • Represent Supply Chain in Material Review and Change Control boards as well as various other inter-departmental meetings and projects.



  • Sources, purchases, plans, and schedules the movement of raw materials, packaging materials, parts, components, services, supplies, finished goods, and related material through production and inventory process.



  • Coordinates and follows up with production, warehouse, and engineering personnel to ensure appropriate procurement, scheduling, and movement of materials and services.



Must Have: Minimum Requirements


  • Bachelors degree required
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience


Nice to Have

  • Significant SAP experience


  • Agile and/or SQL experience


  • Medical device, biotech, or pharmaceutical industry experience


  • Procurement/planning role with demonstrated knowledge of principles, regulations, theories and processes


  • Familiarity with lean methodology and "Pull" systems of material replenishment


  • Expertise in integrated manufacturing software systems used for Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Materials Requirement Planning (MRP)
    APICS CSCP, CPIM certifications
