Job Summary:

The Supply Chain Director is responsible for strategic sourcing and logistics in support of global manufacturing.This position will manage a team of managers, buyers and logistics professionals at two U.S. sites and a contract manufacturer in Europe.The Supply Chain Director will be responsible for improving PPV, freight costs, delivery, supplier quality through a preferred supplier strategy, savings funnel management, supplier selection and building a high-performance team, while maintaining regulatory compliance.This position will work closely with Engineering, Sales,Manufacturing and RA/QA functions to insure a smooth transition of new products from development to production.The Supply Chain Director will report to the Executive Vice President of Operations and will be a key member of the Operations leadership team.

Responsibilities (Specific tasks, duties, essential functions of the job)


  • Develop and implement a preferred supplier strategy that improves raw material quality, delivery and cost, while meeting the needs of product development.


  • Participate on New Product Development teams, ensuring the on-time delivery of new products and targeted quality and cost targets.


  • Improve material standard cost through the deployment of annual cost reduction initiatives.


  • Review, approve and monitor, in collaboration with Quality and Engineering, the selection and retention of qualified suppliers and sub-contractors.


  • Work in collaboration with Engineering and suppliers to identify and take advantage of specific cost reduction opportunities; ranging from simple negotiations associated with demand changes to extensive projects associated with design modifications.


  • Improve raw material inventory turns through the deployment of supplier stocking programs, lead-time reduction and vendor-managed inventory (VMI)


  • Effectively manage Europe contract manufacturing, ensuring on-time shipment to customers, while achieving cost and quality objectives.


  • Build an organization structure and high-performing team that can support a growing business.


  • Continuously improve associate engagement through effective leadership, communication and action-planning the annual survey improvement areas.


  • Effectively operate within the regulations of a class-2 medical device.


  • Ensure that suppliers and the sourcing team are adhering to regulatory requirements of the FDA, SOX and government trade regulations.


  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.


  • Comply with all company policies and procedures.


  • Assist with any other duties as assigned.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities


  • Strong manufacturing process and systems knowledge at both the tactical and strategic level.


  • Effective and experienced negotiator.


  • Experienced working with OEM and contract manufacturers.


  • Experience with development, implementation and budgetary controls related to custom designed parts and the associated tooling.


  • Strong leadership attributes. Ability to manage both individuals as well as projects.


  • Some traveling is required for supplier selection and management activities.


  • Must have strong work ethic.

Qualifications (Experience and Education)


  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or related discipline, required.


  • 12-15 years’ experience in supply chain management (purchasing, logistics, planning or product development). Including experience in supplier negotiations, new product development processes, project management& VAVE.


  • 6 years management experience, with a minimum of five direct reports, required.


  • Professional designation (CPM, CPIM, or similar SPICS Certification), preferred.


  • Advanced knowledge/proficiency in Microsoft Office, required.


  • Advanced knowledge/proficiency in ERP systems, required; Oracle, preferred


  • A combination of training, education and experience that is equivalent to the qualifications listed above and that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
