POSITION OVERVIEW


Vital Images is looking for enthusiastic and creative self-starters with a passion for building and leading high performing development teams.  Our ideal candidate has the technical skills to lead the solution of complex technical problems and the leadership skills to operate in a complex global organization.


The Manager of Engineering is responsible for developing high-functioning teams that deliver quality products. Managers must recruit, develop, and retain the right staff to ensure that the team works well together and has the skills to deliver on the priorities defined by Product Management. Managers also coach and mentor members of the team and may directly engage at various levels within the organization as needed to ensure project success.


 


RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Ensure high quality deliverables

    • Work with team to drive improvements in requirements review, hazard analysis, code review, test coverage, and automation

    • Identify opportunities to collaborate with other groups within the organization

    • Identify and recommend process improvements to increase quality and efficiency



  • Team development and retention

    • 1:1 meetings to mentor and coach behaviors that drive quality and efficiency

    • Stay abreast of developments in tools and technologies the team is using

    • Work with developers to identify skills gaps and training plans, general career planning

    • Understand team needs and identify and clear roadblocks and distractions

    • Document and deliver semi-annual performance reviews

    • Make recommendations for promotions and changes to salary as needed



  • Hiring and recruiting

    • Work with HR to recommend and develop recruiting channels

    • Define external job postings and internal job descriptions

    • Screen resumes and performing interviews

    • Make recommendations for hiring, firing, and compensation

EDUCATION AND SKILLS


Required:



  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related technical field or equivalent experience

  • 5+ years of leadership experience in commercial software development

  • 3+ years successfully delivering projects with Agile methodologies


Preferred:



  • Strong communication and organizational skills



  • Strong track record of cross-functional collaboration

  • Experience with tools and technologies used by our software development teams, including JIRA, Confluence, Artifactory, etc. preferred

  • Experience with Healthcare informatics domain knowledge including: DICOM, HL7, HIS, RIS, PACS, EMR, HIE preferred
