The Applied Material Science (AMS) team with Cooper Standard develops high performance, lightweight elastomers for our customers in diverse industries. These innovative material solutions are a result of our team of scientists working closely with our customers to accomplish revolutionary properties.

The Launch Manager leads the AMS Operations team through program, product or process launches.  If chosen, you will be responsible for all launch tasks, deliverables and events via the AMS ops team. You will work very closely with compounding suppliers, Purchasing , and the end customers to ensure we meet timing, quality, and financial goals. You would also work closely with the Program Manager and the rest of the Program Team and would occasionally functions as Program Manager for specific AMS Ops projects.

Primary Responsibilities:


  • Represents the team as the lead manufacturing member of the Program Team. Interface with the Program Manager, Program Engineer, Program Buyer, Account Manager, and Cost Analyst

  • Is responsible to execute all Program deliverables, specifically all Operations tasks and deliverables for new product launches including all PPAP’s, supplier readiness reviews and meeting all customer requirements and MRDs, setup of material vendors, defining material vendors MOQ, setting up supply chain for customers, run at rate @ Compounders to ensure demand is communicated.

  • Work with compounders to plan, coordinate, and manage the production, scheduling, and capacity planning to ensure continuous rapid improvements as measured by on time delivery, cycle time, inventory days on hand, inventory accuracy and cost

  • Develop and implement a tactical material flow planning process for production planning departments.  Drive WIP inventory reduction planning and stock inventory levels to meet monthly reduction requirements

  • Provides operations support for product builds, testing, process optimization, run at rate events and variation studies

  • Represents operations in a professional way, maintains customer satisfaction, and meets customer expectations for response time, quality products, delivery on time, communication and quality systems

  • Utilizes SAP/MRP system to create prototype/production material orders.

  • Management of Customer and Cooper Systems within the program management requirements. (SAP, PDM Link, etc.)

  • Support KT, 8D, or other structured corrective action/decision making within dept. or at a partner vendor to assure timely and permanent problem resolution with support from others

  • Influences the level of service and the team’s ability to meet quality and volume objectives in a timely manner

  • May, on occasion, be required to perform duties other than those specified in this description

Education and Qualifications:


  • Associate or Bachelor of Science in Supply Chain, Technology or Engineering or Manufacturing.

  • Experience in Purchasing, Supply Chain, Material Planning and/or Manufacturing will be given preference

  • Launch coordination experience required, experience with launching a material is highly preferred.

  • Willingness to obtain (or) possession of Six Sigma Black Belt or Kepner- Tregoe certification

  • Ability to solve complex problems and exercise judgement based on the analysis of multiple sources of information

  • Experience in a variety of basic operations disciplines: Manufacturing Engineering, Quality Engineering, Materials and Logistics, & Process / Tooling Engineering

  • In-depth understanding and application of concepts, theories and principles in program management

  • Able to identify and Coordinate the resolution of issues related to programs or processes

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Willingness and ability to travel, as necessary

  • Professional Office Environment

  • Must wear proper personal protection equipment while on manufacturing floor

  • Travel to manufacturing facilities or customer locations when required (up to 30%)

  • Equipment used requires proper training on the potential for and avoidance of injury
