In this role as the Head of IT and Digital for the US Business Unit, you will have overall accountability for the technical enablement of the business and the functional strategy through the appropriate definition, delivery and adoption of both current and innovative technologies, in alignment with the Global IT strategy. You will report directly to the Global Head of Commercial IT and importantly, maintain a matrix business partner relationship with the US business and functional leaders.

This role sits directly on the Business Operating Committee of the USBU to help influence, shape and define a cohesive technology enablement strategy. You will be an active thought partner on both the business leadership team and the global commercial IT leadership teams. You will act as an advisor to the business, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels including C-suite to guide and co-create new capabilities that are directly relevant to the regional or Business Units Patient, HCP, Growth and Productivity strategies.

The successful candidate will be a highly motivated, very responsive and results orientated individual with exceptional relationship development, communication skills, strong project, financial and management experience.

OBJECTIVES: 


  • Strategic Positioning – The role is an industry relevant, strategic technology leader for Takeda.  This leader applies digital and data solutions to shape and drive Market Access, Healthcare professional and patient engagement, improved patient outcomes, accelerated business growth and increased overall business productivity.


  • IT Strategy – Takeda is undertaking a bold digital and data transformation. This role is responsible for successfully guiding the USBU along this transformation by proactively engaging with, understanding, influencing and enabling the business strategy by deploying the relevant digital and data technologies.  


  • Business Partnering – Develop and maintain strong relationships with commercial direct and indirect clients including customer satisfaction, cultivating growth, as well as day-to-day communications. Align with, collaborate and influence Takeda business and IT leaders. Become a single point of contact for your geography and business. Act as an advisor and partner in translating the business strategy to identify and deliver relevant solutions that add value both internally and externally of Takeda. 


  • Portfolio responsibility –The role is responsible for building, in collaboration with the business, a portfolio of programs, projects and initiatives required for executing the business strategy and daily operations.  All required resources to execute on this portfolio must be evaluated, planned and budgeted for. The role is accountable for understanding and aligning all aspects of IT including end user experience (infrastructure and applications) to deliver this portfolio. This may include influencing a number of IT roles that are not direct reports.


  • Operational responsibility – Along with the team this role leads, you will have overall accountability for day-to-day IT operations and performance affecting the business. This requires a focus on ensuring all IT operations (Infrastructure and Applications) are stable, meeting service levels and being proactively managed to avoid any business disruption. 


  • Organizational Development – The role is expected to demonstrate leadership and strong people development to contribute to the overall strategic direction of both Takeda IT and the respective aligned business function. The role continuously accesses and ensures the right IT organization structure, roles and skills are in place to sustainably deliver value to our business partners.  


  • Capability Development – This role seeks to drive business value across key commercial capabilities including market access, product launch, patient services, HCP services, omni-channel digital marketing, sales and business insights and analytics.


  • Integration with IT – As a key member of both the Global Commercial IT leadership team and Takeda’s Extended IT leadership teams the role collaborates with other senior IT leaders to shape IT vision and direction.

                                   

ACCOUNTABILITIES: 


  • Intimate and deep understanding of the business environment and geography that you are accountable for. Understand the IT solutions being consumed in this environment and influence and improve the solutions so that our business partners, customers and patients have the best possible experience with Takeda IT.

  • Learn and understand how the broader IT organization operates (Key when facing as a single point of contact) so the appropriate IT resources can be quickly be engaged to deliver the best and most appropriate solutions.

  • Business Partnering

    • Align your team to appropriately for maximum collaboration with the business leaders in your defined area. Understand and influence the business strategy along with specific business initiatives and goals.

    • Understand the Takeda business as a whole, its geographies, its franchises, the disease states and the products and services we provide.

    • Actively identify and action how the business strategy, initiatives and goals can be best enabled using our standard IT solutions. Identify and act appropriately when significant gaps exist between the business strategy and the standard IT solutions available. Always be collaborative and transparent.    



  • Managing business demand

    • Identify specific IT demand from the business that align to enable the strategy.

    • Collaborate to ensure demand is appropriately collected, filtered, consolidated, prioritized, funded and resourced.

    • Create an operating plan showing projects, solutions, timelines and resources (people and monies) to deliver on the approved demand.

    • Communicate and agree the operating plan across the business and IT leadership.

    • Lead team to execute the operating plan.



  • Delivering on time and within budget

    • Use or create relevant scorecards to monitor and manage progress across operations (end user experience), projects and budget.

    • Develop and present regional/BU Commercial IT metrics to leadership and own overall regional/BU Commercial IT performance

    • Manage the consolidated budget for regional/SBU Commercial IT and ensure resources are used in an optimal manner and within agreed expenditure budgets

    • Identify risks to projects and lead team response to take appropriate action and keep to commitments.



  • Leadership, Organizational and Team development

    • Deep understanding of the roles, responsibilities and sizing needed to provide support to the business ecosystem

    • Accountable for effective leadership, management, coaching and counseling of the regional/BU Commercial IT team, including but not limited to training needs analysis, personal development of direct reports, and performance management of the regional/BU Commercial IT organization

    • Lead culturally and technically diverse teams / disciplines in the region and create a strong link between the different locations where the regional/BU Commercial IT teams are based

    • Create a culture of agility, performance, and value in technology services

    • Set and assess performance management objectives for direct reports and oversee this process for the regional/SBU Commercial IT team



  • Risk and Compliance
    • Accountable for all appropriate risk and security measures for Commercial IT application compliance


EDUCATION, BEHAVIORAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS: 

Essential:


  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Sciences, Life Sciences, Business or related subject matter. MBA or advanced degree preferred

  • At least 20 years of business information management, 15+ years of relevant IT experience and a minimum of eight years in Commercial IT with pharmaceutical & medical device companies managing commercial marketing and sales, medical affairs, and patient service IT initiatives including large external service provider partnerships within pharmaceutical and/or biotech environment

  • Advanced understanding of the pharmaceutical business, general business processes and the systems environment in place to support those processes including a strong and detailed knowledge of the industry and the key parties involved (Policy makers, Payors, HCP environment, Patient environment).   

  • Experienced with multiple and diverse application environments including sales, marketing, revenue management, data privacy, digital solutions, mobile technology and business intelligence processes and applications; demonstrated experience overseeing Veeva CRM or Salesforce.com solutions

  • Previous experience representing IT & Digital as part of a senior business leadership team – track record of contributing to all topics, finding consensus with stakeholders with different priorities, leading and shaping prioritization demand discussions, aligning IT & Digital strategy with business strategy etc.

  • Proven experience managing C-level stakeholders; track record of success presenting to, engaging with and influencing the senior most members of a relevant organization

  • Proven technical, leadership and management skills with the ability to manage simultaneous priorities and changing deadlines, including large IT projects from start to end

  • Extensive vendor management skills. Proven experience with managing external third party managed service providers and software vendors

  • Strong knowledge of information management, data quality, data constraints and Governance Frameworks

  • Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, and a high level of organization skills

  • Understand and provide clarity and transparency of local Commercial needs

  • Apply global solutions where possible and local solutions only when necessary

  • Experience with full software development life cycle in regulated environment (FDA, GxP, HIPAA, SOX, GDPR and other data privacy, computer system validation, a plus)
