We are looking for a talented Human – Centered Design candidate to join our team specializing in Human-Centered Design, Strategic Design, Design Thinking, Service Design and/or Human-Computer Interaction for our Corporate Business in Columbus, IN and/or your remote home office.

 

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways: 

Contributes to the design of innovative experiences and solutions that meet customer needs. Translates user needs into desirable, viable, and feasible solutions that improve the lives and businesses of customers. Plans, facilitates, and leads problem-framing/solving projects applying human-centered design methodologies. Champions human-centered design methodology and engagement of customers in all steps of the design process.


  • Contributes to the application of human-centered design in projects and initiatives through consistent (common)methods and processes. 


  • Guides stakeholders and customers on the HCD methods and methodology (why using them, what they are, outcomes of using them) and how they apply.


  • Contributes to building alignment among stakeholders regarding scope, problems to be solved, the approach, and deliverables.


  • Works collaboratively with teammates and stakeholders in the business to execute research based on agreed-upon strategy. 


  • Applies defined human-centered design approaches to research and problem solving that effectively leads to innovative, desirable, feasible and viable solutions. 


  • Assists with coordination of customer and end-user engagement throughout projects and reports to project manager to ensure solutions meet their needs.


  • Works on tasks associated with human-centered design events and sessions in response to provided direction. 


  • Solves routine problems within the work group using human-centered design methodology and established procedures.

  • Creative confidence - Explores problem spaces and the art of the possible and builds great ideas by establishing a safe space where you can encourage and inspire alternative perspectives, shed biases, and blend/build upon generated ideas to facilitate creativity within yourself or amongst a group.

     


  • Design research - Implements ethnographic research by connecting directly with customers and/or end-users to build empathy and understanding; participatory research by engaging and collaborating with customers to uncover the unknowns and redefine the problem; or evaluative research by co-designing (or collaborating) with customers to assess the usability of a proposed solution in order to discover insights, ideate a desired path to a better solution, or share findings.




  •  


  • Making-to-learn - Imagines and explores ideas and possible solutions through ideation, brainstorming, collaboration, and iteration; creates and shares tangible and physical models and concepts through rapid low-cost prototyping or low-fidelity fabrication; and evaluates design, risk, and potential value of the solution by collaborating with customers and end users in order to learn and understand what best meets their needs.

     



  • Facilitation - Guides group discussions or training by creating an active environment where questions are posed, perspectives are shared, and debates occur with the goal of gaining understanding, analyzing issues, resolving conflict, exploring solutions, or making decisions.

Potential Workplan Items: 
- Collaborate or lead a HCD project for the Product Strategy team 
- Support secondary research of On-Highway markets 
- Support in developing a system of "creativity-oriented" metrics 


Degree Programs Considered: MBA, MFA or MS Major Programs Typically Considered: Human-Centered Design, Strategic Design, Design Thinking, Service Design, Human-Computer Interaction, UX/UI Design, or Engineering/Business degree with specialization in Human-Centered Design or Design Thinking 

Start Date: June 2021 

 

Internship program criteria:




  • Must be a full-time enrolled student pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree




  • Minimum 3.0 GPA preferred




  • Must be able to complete a minimum of a 10 week commitment




  • Must be able to complete 40 hours per week



  • Willingness to learn from others on the job

    Compensation and Benefits


    Base salary rate commensurate with experience. Additional benefits vary between locations and include options such as our 401(k) Retirement Savings Plan, Cash Balance Pension Plan, Medical/Dental/Life Insurance, Health Savings Account, Domestic Partners Coverage and a full complement of personal and professional benefits.
