At the Boston Health Technology Center, we are focused on creating innovative health and wellness technologies, in support of the broader Best Buy Health mission to help seniors, and those that support them, as they continue to live well in their own homes. We are an innovative and agile product development team whose mission is to build data science infused digital products. Our solutions include wearable and IoT sensors to track activity, detect emergency events, and assess current and future physical and mental health of seniors.
We are looking for a self-driven, detail oriented, and motivated Sr. Research Scientist to join our fast-growing team. As a Sr. Research Scientist, you will design, develop, and execute research supporting a range of products and services with a focus on health and wellness technologies to support older adults and patients with chronic health conditions. Your research will enable new product development. You will work directly with product managers to help drive product and service design, and you will work with engineers to develop products for testing in the earliest stages of design and development. In addition to your own individual contributions to analysis and reporting of results, you will work with data scientists as needed to support research analysis.
Required qualifications:


  • Postgraduate degree in biomedical engineering or a related field

  • Demonstrated history of writing research methods and scientific reports

  • 4+ years of related experience in device research, including experience with testing involving human subjects

  • Subject matter expertise in clinical applications of wearable sensing, remote patient monitoring, or biosignals

  • Excellent critical thinking skills combined with the ability to present your views clearly and compellingly in both verbal and written form.

  • Ability to synthesize data through data mining and statistical algorithms

  • Aspiration to push your ideas into production, overcoming obstacles, in order to develop scientifically rigorous, customer centric, products and services

Preferred qualifications:

  • Fluency with at least one data science / analytics programing language (e.g., MATLAB, Python, R)

  • Skilled at data visualization and presentation

  • Publications at top-tier peer-reviewed conferences or journals

  • Familiar with the techniques and limitations of observational studies and interventional studies

  • Familiar with theory and practice of information retrieval, relevance, machine learning, and data mining.

  • Experience with MEMS accelerometers and gyroscopes

  • Experience developing algorithms

  • Familiarity with medical device design controls including ISO 13485 and 21 CFR 820
