We license all hunting, fishing and watercraft; oversee and permit all mineral extraction, monitor dam safety, manage water resources and serve as the second largest Law Enforcement presence in the State of Ohio.

We are accepting applications for a Preserve Manager within the Division of Natural Areas & Preserves, headquartered at Southeast Region/Boch Hollow State Nature Preserve, assigned to Hocking county. What you will do…


  • Act as Preserve Manager throughout assigned Preserve Region

  • Assist Regional Preserve manager in daily management activities (e.g., planning & implementing natural area projects, interpretive programs & ecological management plans)

  • Identifies diseases, weeds & invasive species

  • Designs & Implements overall scheduled maintenance of equipment, buildings & facilities

  • Completes & Maintains records/reports (e.g., purchases, weekly reports)

Acts as preserve manager throughout the assigned Preserve Region (sites including but not limited to Boch Hollow SNP, Kessler Swamp SNP, Christmas Rocks SNP, Shallenberger SNP, Rhododendron Cove SNP, Rockbridge SNP, Conkles Hollow SNP, Saltpetre Cave SNP, Sheick Hollow SNP, Little Rocky Hollow SNP, Stages Pond SNP, Cranberry Bog SNP) and assists the Regional Preserve Manager in daily management activities including planning & implementing natural area projects, assisting with interpretive programs & implementing ecological management plans (e.g. cutting, spraying herbicides, removal of non-native species); ensures compliance with site management plan on ecological maintenance, monitors local species & identifies non-native species for removal; build, & maintain interpretive trails & general hiking trail systems; assists in updating plant & animal species data; assists  with non-native removal (e.g., construction of fire breaks for sites requiring controlled burns); identifies diseases, weeds & invasive plant species & applies appropriate controls for these pests; makes entries into pesticide application log; monitors & updates inventory for environmental impact assessment; assists with presenting public programs on native plants, species & animals; works with volunteers for the division; supervises assigned staff (e.g., seasonal employees, volunteers). Assists with controlled burns as part of the prescribed fire team.

 

Designs & implements overall scheduled maintenance of equipment, buildings & facilities: maintains equipment inventory; performs grounds maintenance (e.g., mows, trims trees, picks-up litter); performs carpentry (e.g., painting, construction of boardwalks & bridges); performs plumbing (e.g., repairing/replacing faucet washers, toilet valves, water filters maintaining water quality system);  performs electrical (e.g., replaces: light bulbs, outlets,  switches); light mechanical duties (e.g., oil changes, replace air/fuel filters & spark plugs, sharpen mower blades)  oversees facilities for code compliance & Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards; recommends changes to site management plans; recommends changes to division policies & procedures; operates & trains staff in operation of power tools (e.g., chain saws, mowers, tractors, trimmers, drills).

 

Completes & maintains records/reports (e.g., purchases, weekly reports, monthly vehicle logs); assists in design of brochures & in writing news releases & articles; provides & conducts training in preserve related areas for staff (e.g., herbicide use, health & safety issues, earth sciences, mandated in-services, proper use of site equipment & in code compliance to include Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA), fire & vehicle codes); monitors habitat management restoration projects; Conducts prescribed fire; applies pesticides; operates personal computer (e.g., edit, enter & verify data, produce reports, draft correspondence, enter work time); drives state-owned vehicles from area to area of the district & state to perform job duties (e.g., travel to & from work sites, attend training & conferences).

 

UNUSUAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Works outdoors; operates power tools/equipment in adverse conditions may be exposed to noxious/poisonous plants and biting ins.

Completion of associate core program in natural resources, botany, zoology, biology, ecology or related field AND valid driver’s license.
 
-Or 12 mos. exp. as Preserve Manager Aide, 22411 AND valid driver’s license.
 
-Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.
