Associate Director Instructional Design and Commercial Learning Development Capabilities

As an Associate Director Instructional Design working on the Commercial Learning and Development team, you will be empowered to refine, develop, and implement instructional design models and educational frameworks. In this role, you will contribute to Takeda’s mission by advancing capabilities of the CL&D organization and act as the in-house instructional design expert.  A typical day will include:

POSITION OBJECTIVES:


  • Responsible for the overall strategic direction of the Instructional Design team in meeting the needs of the USBU. As a core capability within CL&D, the AD is responsible to ensure that the organizational design, resourcing and expertise is able to meet the goals of the department.

  • Responsible for the performance assessment of CL&D staff in performing their technical roles across the organization. 

  • Understand the performance gaps of the CL&D organization, the AD is responsible for the development and execution of a comprehensive L&D on-boarding and upskilling curriculum.

  • Monitor and assess future trends in life science learning, the availability of new learning platforms, advancements in the science of adult learning, teaching methodologies and design and to ensure that the internal ID is ready to deliver on leading edge resources.

  • Leads the design, development and measurement/performance impact of instructional solutions for the commercial learning curriculum, instructor led courses and distance-based learning

  • Lead the ID organization, staff, and processes associated with production of training content for the USBU training functions. 

  • Provide instructional design support for the CL&D organization within USBU.

  • Refine, develop, and implement instructional design models and educational frameworks, advance capabilities of the CL&D organization and act as the in-house instructional design expert. 

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:


  • Develops a deep understanding of future trends and innovation in the life science learning space and how this will impact the USBU and specifically the CL&D organization deliverables,

  • Drives industry-leading instructional design and adult learning innovation across the department and consistently investigates and pilots new and novel approaches for learning.

  • Owns the CL&D Competency Models to define, assess, on-board and and upskill specialized CL&D staff, empowering team to reach their full potential and better partner with both internal and external partners.

  • Partners with client groups, subject matter experts and other stakeholders within the various departments to gain an understanding of key business issues, market forces and expected performance results to make decisions for curriculum development and course design, development and delivery.   

  • Conducts learning needs/performance assessments, in collaboration with the business, to clearly understand and define the capability gaps.  Develops training curricula and courses to close gaps.

  • Provides clear guidance and feedback to all levels of CL&D team, including VP and Director Leadership Team.

  • Identifies the performance, skills, knowledge, information and attitude gaps of a targeted audience and create, select and/or suggest learning experiences to fill this gap.

  • Define the most effective learning mix (i.e., instructor led, e-Learning, blended learning, social learning) for the agreed target audience and good instructional design within each learning project

  • Serve as a subject matter expert to provide innovative programs that deliver desired results

  • Build and transform client relationships with key stakeholders to help ensure learning initiatives support strategic goals.

  • Lead design, development, implementation and measurement of the learning and development strategy for selected groups.

  • Responsible for identification of training capabilities and developing and rolling out the trainer upskilling roadmap. 

  • Evaluates and recommends technology and distance-based platforms with the goal of applying pharmaceutical industry and adult learning best practices to drive commercial results. 

  • Strategic thinker with experience in preparing and executing projects and driving for results.

  • Ability to cultivate internal and external relationships based on trust and respect in anticipation of future working relationships.

  • Demonstrated ability to proactively maximize relationships to enable successful collaboration

  • Demonstrated ability to successfully lead team and develop functional organization.

EDUCATION, BEHAVIORAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:


  • Masters Degree or Bachelors Degree and Instructional Design Certification preferred

  • 7 years in the biotech/pharmaceutical industry and or sales training role

  • Experience leading “development” initiatives, i.e., training, coaching, learning initiatives

  • Thorough knowledge of instructional design principles, adult learning theory and 6D’s

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, influencing, and negotiation

  • Excellent written/verbal communication skills, fluent in English.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Instructional Design Certification (recommended)

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Relevant travel as needed or required by the business
