The Speech-Language Pathologist provides direct and indirect support in the assessment, identification, and educational programming needs for students with known or suspected speech-language impairments and other impacting conditions. Specialized knowledge in school-based interventions and data-based decision making in various communication and oral-motor disorders is essential in this position.


Essential Functions: The below statements are intended to describe the general nature and scope of work being performed by the individual(s) assigned to the Speech-Language Pathologist position. This is not a complete listing of all responsibilities, duties and/or skills required; other duties may be assigned as department needs arise. 



  • Screens, evaluates, and provides speech-language therapy for students with identified speech-language impairments

  • Balances consistency & flexibility with coordinating therapy schedules for direct services around IEP team & document compliance needs

  • Provide consultation to student-support teams on emerging patterns or effective instructional strategies;

  • Manages procedural and documentation compliance needs for students on caseload; including IEP team meeting coordination & facilitation

  • Establishes collaborative sustaining relationships with other treating therapists to maximize service delivery and eliminate barriers to regular engagement

  • Maintains files and/or records, e.g. progress reports, activity logs, treatment plans, reports, etc. for the purpose of ensuring the availability of information as required for reference and/or compliance;

  • Consul students/families in the use of appropriate communication technologies (such as computer-based tools or alternative augmentative communication devices) for the purpose of minimizing the adverse educational impact of communication disorders

  • Participates in meetings, workshops, and seminars to obtain and disseminate professional development trainings in the specialized area of speech-language pathology

  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Minimum Required Qualifications



  • A valid PDE Speech-Language Pathologist Educational Specialist certificate

  • Full credentials for school-based pupil personnel as required by PA Department of Education

  • Knowledge and ability of quality Individualized Education Plan data, goals, & effective instructional strategies

  • Ability to directly manage & support IEP compliance needs for designated student caseload

Minimum Required Skill Set



  • Thorough knowledge of school-based speech-language service delivery according to IDEA requirements

  • Demonstrated expertise in conducting/interpreting comprehensive speech-language evaluations of students with complex disability profiles

  • Strong consultative and training skills to develop school personnel regarding implications of speech-language impairments on learning

  •  Exceptional verbal and written communication skills targeted appropriately for stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications



  • Direct experience providing speech-language and social-skills group therapy to students within low incidence populations

  • Specific training/expertise in supporting students with alternative augmentative communication devices and/or verbal behavior therapy needs

  • Ability to create and deliver professional development training to both school personnel & families

Certifications and Credentials



  • PDE Special Education or Speech-Language Instructional I certificate OR

  • Graduate of PA approved Educational Specialist Speech-Language Pathologist program OR

  • ASHA-CCC SLP – Professional Speech-Language Pathologist License AND

  • All PDE required clearances for school-based pupil personnel (within one (1) year required for offer)

  • This position can be performed as a home-based position, though in-office reporting may be requested when necessary.

  • The noise level in the office setting is usually moderate (computers, printers, light foot traffic).

  • Remote workers are required to arrange Childcare for young children at home per our Remote Worker policy in the Employee Handbook.

  • This position could include limited travel and could include limited overnight travel. This is estimated to be less than 10% of the cumulative 10-month school year.
